PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

It worries me a little. If I want to play some new release and I pop it into my PS4K - assuming the game has been optimised for the new hardware - console reads the disc and turns on all the bells and whistles, higher res, better framerate. But if I still have a PS4 and I want that new release it will scale it down to match the hardware. Like a decent PC versus a lesser one. That's going to feel pretty ****** for the existing 40 million PS4 owners, isn't it?

I am willing to bet it won't be a more powerful console, just the inclusion of a drive to support 4K physical media.

Why not just make a ps5, why go to the effort of a 4.5 with supposed better internals.
Also a 4k drive, makes no sense when the market is going digital streaming. I prefer physical media, but come on we all though streaming is the future.

On top of that perception, developers will develop to the lowest common denominator which will always be the oldest console as it will have the higher install base (so forever cross gen) and because theyll have the same resources as they do now they are less likely to optimise those platforms leading to more inefficient ports.

Its really not wholly a positive move, something like forward compatibility sounds great but once you scratch the surface it has implications that need some thought by each developer...

BTW I dont pay that much attention to BD UHD, if it seems to be only just kicking off why cant Sony wait say another year (Im assuming the PS4k is launching next year) and just make it the PS5 - it would be a 5 year generation which I doubt anyone would consider an issue...

ps3ud0

It may be the future, but until internet Infrastructure (in the U.K. at least) catches up, then downloading or streaming proper* 4K content will be challenging.

(* i.e. Ultra HD Blurays @ 82Mbps-128Mbps vs Netflix "4K" @ 15.6Mbps)

1080P OLED > 4K LCD

no it isn't

4k netflix is no better and actually worse than 1080p blu ray.

no chance.

4k tv's are a waste atm. unless you can afford the decent models which are £2000+. if you can then you can afford to spend £500 on a player and £30 a movie so no need to use a console to play them on.

Where are you getting this nonsense from lol.

4K tv's look amazing. Even with 4k high bit rate youtube you can see the difference easily. Also if you look on the rain forest as mentioned before the 4K blu rays are £19.99

Of course if you can afford a £2000+ tv then a £500 player is nothing. Especially considering the Panasonic and Samsung 4K players are between £350 and £500. It would make the PS4K player a bargain especially if it supports all HDR formats.

For £5xx may as well get an Oppo. Though I'd imagine Oppo 4K would be a lot more than £5xx.

Officially the Only 4k player on 18th April will be panasonic. Has samsungs $400 player got a confirmed UK release date?

This will fail, hard.

Developers will concentrate on the existing hardware because that is where the install base is.

Absolute waste of time.

I hope so, if they go through with this they have killed any goodwill earned from this generation of release.

Why would they split a userbase of such size, idiots.

Do they honestly need to push 4k that much?

Do they honestly need to push 4k that much?

This is the thing, if it somehow turns out to actually be true, I can't work out whether it's for the sake of 4K, VR or both. If they're going to push the benefit of 4K a lot of people won't be interested. If it's geared towards VR, they're going to destroy interest in PSVR because people will start to assume that the current PS4 won't provide a decent experience. It's an expensive bit of kit as it is, they can't realistically expect to then sell them a new console too.

Then again it is Sony, a company sometimes so detached from reality they make and release hardware almost nobody wants e.g. PSP Go and PS TV.

The only major gripe us Sony should have forseen 4k built in . It got in from day 1 with blue ray on ps3 , so it's abit odd they missed the boat on this as they pushed the format

Leaker has got more:

Time from announce to release should be pretty short just long enough for preorders to be taken. There is a store date which is close to OGPS4 release date but before Christmas. HD 500gb (guessing pricing factor) The actual unit is smaller than OG PS4. No SKU for PSVR bundle (yet)

Lol 500Gb

He's also saying he's got a lot of info to drop but won't do it today because April fools. Will be dropped tomorrow.

Way way way to many people thinking is a gaming update. Sony want a 4k uhd player.. it's cheaper for them to push it in a console than a standalone player.

So you think the rumours about a better CPU and GPU aren't correct?
Possible but so many confirming the rumour at the mo

First we had remastered games now we have remastered consoles.

Indeed. I wonder who started that trend...

And just FYI, 1080p is 2.1 MegaPixels, whereas 4k is 8.3 MegaPixels. That's roughly 4 times the pixel count at 1080p. I don't think doubling the power of something that struggles at 1080p is going to be enough to output acceptable 4k performance.

It's hilarious how the PS4.5 has gotten to NX rumour/false info levels now. Expect to see some 3D printer PS4.5 controllers soon.

Oh and here's the latest top secret PS4.5 leak I got for you guys. The info is from a developer working with the PS4.5 devkit, so it's solid. But I can't reveal any more info besides that I'm afraid. The deets are that the PS4.5 plays games in 8k, has an Nvidia Volta GPU and also has touchscreen controllers. Remember, you heard it hear first.

Now wait for various major news outlets to take that as truth and gospel and every hungry YTer to make a video about it. That's generally how most NX rumours go. Enjoy the first of this month.

Edit: Here's a PS4.5 poll regarding the scenario if the PS4.5 was actually more powerful than the current PS4 - http://strawpoll.me/7228112

Volta GPU? That's not out til 2018. :p

The most important thing for me at this point is that all future systems are backwards compatible. I'd be really annoyed if I couldn't play PS4 games on the next system and would probably change to PC although I really do not want to.
