I have just spent the day doing a car and used a G3 Claymitt. It was a revolution, absolutely fantastic. So quick and easy to use.

£12.99 from Halfords. I highly recommend it.

I'd forgotten how enjoyable 'detailing' could be!

Think I might have to buy one of these, I'm not satisfied with just a normal shampoo wash so might start using a claymitt then spray detailer, yeah easy but hopefully effective :p

Just get a spray bottle and use water. It's the clay that picks up the dirt, the detailer acts as a lubricant so the clay don't stick to the paintwork, water does the same job but much cheaper.

OK might give that a go next time, already have a bottle handy..

I think a clay mitt will really help as since getting my car it doesn't seem as shiny/clean anymore. Also needs a good machine polish as there's a few scratches in some places.

I haven't got onto waxing yet, I know that should help keep the dirt off as well.

You can tell if you need claying when after a wash, run your fingers over the paint and if its really clean, it feels like glass. If not, you can feel all the microscopic bumps from the dirt your eyes can't see.

Or a drop of shampoo in the water. I purposefully bought the triple wax shampoo at £1 for 500ml for that purpose. Doesn't cost the earth and lubes it up good and proper!

Yeah I know it's not properly clean after a wash, so a clay mitt should help with that I'm guessing.

Also has anyone tried Sonax high speed wax?

Hey at least I'm using the 2 bucket method now :p:eek:

Much better than just water. Rapid retailers help by breaking up the contaminants slightly and also lubricating the surface. Just don't put pressure when using the clay, let it do its job.

I usually clay depending on the feel of the car. Some parts will need it more often, it all depends on your mileage and quality of wax being used to protect the paint.

It is a quick use wax, so won't be as good as harder waxes, but it depends how long you want to spend on the car :). These products are usually used to top up existing wax coats.

How do you clean it between wipes? 2 buckets? hose?

I tend to use a separate bucket full of shampoo and dunk it in that after doing a panel/area. I don't clay very often really, haven't done the new TT yet but it worked a treat on my old cars.

In fact I recently clayed the back window of the new TT because there was a load of contaminants on it, to the point where water just stood still on it and didn't bead or sheet off. must have got some sort of industrial fallout on it while it sat the docks or garage.

She had her first wash since being collected.

Basic foam pre wash then a hand wash with meguiars ultimate, need to get some aqua wax during the week :D

Shiny!

Anyone tried SONAX Xtreme Brilliant Shine Detailer? I am about to run out of aqua wax and lots of people are telling me that the SONAX stuff is better. Anyone have any experience using it?

BSD is fantastic! My go to quick detailer, and I keep a bottle in my boot if a quick shine up takes my fancy. My tip would be to decant it into a better spray bottle, as the one that it comes in is quite frankly rubbish.

I do one spray onto a microfibre applicator and then do a panel and repeat. Doesn't need buffing off, leaves awesome beading and lasts roughly a month (depending on weather)

ECP is by far the cheapest too at £6.99 (even cheaper with the discount codes they do)
