Shiny!

Anyone tried SONAX Xtreme Brilliant Shine Detailer? I am about to run out of aqua wax and lots of people are telling me that the SONAX stuff is better. Anyone have any experience using it?

Use the least amount possible. It goes on a lot thicker and more like a spray wax than a detailer. Its pretty awesome considering the relatively cheap price.

I use it and would echo Blackhawk's comments about applying it. It's fantastic stuff and I often use it over the whole car as a drying aid (sprayed on to my drying towel) and then with a clean microfibre as a LSP. Beading is impressive!

It rained today as forecast. I like seeing beading like this.

Interesting, I tried their tyre shine and it's probably the worst car cleaning product I've ever used.

I might pop to 99p stores to give some of their other stuff a go.

After weeks of doing everyone's car in the household but mine I finally got the chance to do a 'proper detail' on mine. Parking under a petrol station at night showed me just how many swirls the previous owner had inflicted in the paint so now a DA is on my wishlist.

Meg's Gold Class Shampoo, Bilt Hamber Clay, rinse, SRP, EGP. Don't have many photos, and I reaaaally need to do something about the door dings, but I'm very impressed by the SRP + EGP combo. Lovely shine and the beading was fantastic - will try and grab a picture if we get any more rain!

Is there something I can use on the lights to clean them up rather than traditional AG shampoo? Few bits stuck that don't want to come off!

Clay them to get that sort of thing off. You don;t want to use anything harsh/abrasive on them as the plastic is quite soft really and you can damage it easily.

Thanks I've never used clay before. Is there a newbie guide anywhere telling me what I need to use product wise and a basic guide?

Easy route in is the Meguiars Quik Clay kit that you can pick up from Halfords. It comes with a clay lube (their basic quick detailer) and a pack of clay. Loads of vids on Youtube about how to clay a car, but essentially just keep the surface you are working on well lubed and turn and fold the clay as it becomes dirty.

Thanks, is it advisable to do the whole car? I imagine this is once it's been washing and waxed?

You'd clay before polishing and waxing to get the paintwork as contaminant free as possible.

Whether it's worth doing depends on what state the paint is in. Generally you'd maybe do it once or twice a year as part of a full detail. Once it's clean, rub your hand (lightly) over the paintwork, and if it feels rough then clay, polish, wax. If it doesn't, then don't bother!

I did clay my mazda.. the whole bar went away because it'd get FILTHY in seconds!

that was after -;

snow foam
pressure wash
snow foam
2 bucket wash

after that I polished it(nothing much just some of the worst panels) - the whole car is a mess tbh

and waxed it.

That looks like either -

A) Car not thoroughly cleaned first
B) Fallout and tar remover not used prior to use
C) Clay bar not regularly folded
