So, the government is to spend £9.3 million on sending pro-Remain leaflets to every household in the UK.

I can't say I approve. It's one thing for the government to have a position but putting the weight of government money on one side of the debate doesn't feel like a fair contest to me.

Have to agree. Although I an a remainist, the governments official stance on any referendum should be neutral. Give us facts, let us decide.

Government cash shouldn't be spent on trying to sway a referendum. 10 million quid is not exactly spare change either.

ahh okay, if you click on the voting map interesting most of the signatures are coming from conservative seats. probably everyone from the daily mail site that signed :p or could it be a voting intention ?

Is there an online version of this yet? If it's factual then I have less of an issue about it but it's likely to be predictions presented as truth and a bit of scary language added on top.

What happened to the 7 million spending cap for campaining? Are the government going to fund an equal mail shot for leave.

Camoron is panicking and shot himself in the foot with this, will do more harm than good for remain. I will give mine to my parrot to rip up.

Ouch. Really opening ourselves up to a lot of issues if this happens. It doesn't sit comfortably.

Write return to sender and drop it back in the post?

How many do we send back under these rules per year currently?

How many could we, but don't, for reasons unrelated to the EU?

It doesn't apply to this mailshot and Purdah (sp?) doesn't apply until the official campaign period starts.

Informing the taxpayer what the financial consequences are of leaving the EU is hardly a waste of taxpayers money.

It may not be a waste of government money but I think it breaks reasonable expectations of fairness in a referendum campaign. I'm aware it keeps with convention on previous campaigns but I still don't like it.
