The government should have sent out an unbiased fact sheet and thats it.

None of this "voting to leave could lead to 10 years uncertainty" or leaving "could do xyz" scare mongering.

Facts alone

The uncertainty that comes with an out vote is a fact. We genuinely do not know what would happen if the UK leaves, what deal we'll get with the EU or how other countries will react to it. It's not scare mongering to point out that that uncertain future has potential to be very negative.

£9m is a drop in the Ocean of the budget, but tax payers money shouldn't be used on blatent propaganda. If the leaflet represented a fair balanced view then it would be fair enough, but it's obviously going to be a massive propaganda piece

We don't know where the EU is going to be in 5 years, or even 50 years. The difference is we can elect a new government every 5 years.

But that uncertainty also applies to staying in as nobody can predict what the EU will look like next year let alone in 20.

Not quite the same, the potential for disaster short term would be huge compared to the in and also more likely.

I personally dont think most average voters should be qualified to make this decision but the decision is being made regardless. £9 million on such an important leaflet is worth every penny, although it does seem like the bad press from the distribution may end up causing more harm than good of distributing concerns.

As Fox said the currency market reacts negatively to any uncertainity. Just Google what happened to pound when the referendum was confirmed. Even when Boris announced that he's on Leave side the value of the pound drop.
These are just reaction to possibility of leaving, if it happens the drops are very likely to be even bigger. How much and how long for I do not know.

Its not quite as clear as that. I've seen analysis from a number of banks which suggest that Brexit would damage the Euro significantly more than the Pound. In which case, money would leave for safer markets, the pound being one. So its quite possible that in the weeks to months after the referendum, the UK will be seen as a safe haven for European investment.

If the Euro gets hit, then that has direct impacts on the UK. I doubt many would see the UK as a safe haven with all the uncertainty over the agreements to leave.

Uncertainty and limited time scale to sort out trade and movement politics as well as all the minor stuff. Also uncertainty over huge foreign businesses which use the UK as a gateway to EU trading.
