What have you done to your car today?

Dynamatted the rear wall and floor/compartments

Not my car but sorted out trading my fathers RCZ in for a 2015 MX5.

He had the RCZ as an ex-demo with just 8k on it when he bought it, put a further 13k on it in the past 4-5yrs while sticking to the Peugeot servicing schedule.
A few days ago it threw up the EML and went into limp home mode, a trip to Peugeot later and apparently it's a common fault with the VVT, needs a whole new top end to the tune of £3200, a specialist wanted £2.5k.

Absolutely shocking for a 5yr old flagship model with the history his car has, turned me away from the marque forever.

I'm really surprised that they wouldn't do anything on a goodwill basis - did you kick up a fuss with UK HQ?

Isn't it the same basic engine as used in the R56 Mini Cooper S, Citroen DS3 (inc Racing), 208 GTI etc?

Yes it's pretty much the same engine. The dealership didn't even want to budge on the price of repair although they'd gladly taken another £170 for 'further diagnostics'.

If it was my car I would've gone down every complaint route possible but he's at the point in his life where he'd rather just get rid of the car since it's not the first, or second fault he's had with it and move back into something he knows and trusts. The car was setting up to to be a proper money pit, even if we opted for the repair they still haven't actually fixed the fault in the new components so it could throw up the same bill in the next 20k miles.

Ill happily be corrected, but this sounds more like a standard dealer repair tactic.

Using a sledgehammer to break a nut comes to mind. Normally when this is done under warranty you don't care, but when you're paying for them to nuke a problem it isn't so nice.

Ordered a handful of gaskets, hoses, and injector seal kit to add to the pile of turbo conversion bits

Once those and the manifold and downpipe arrive I should be all set to start ripping things apart

- Fitted some stainless steel door sill protectors.

-Removed a few scratches using that Farecla G3 scratch remover. Very pleased with the results! I had a lot of surface scratches on the front and rear driver side bumpers, and they are now completely gone. I was going to take a before and after, but as usual I always forget. :p

- New car areal as my old one was coming apart. Now have a "Shark-fin" style that matches my paint work perfectly.

Got a few more things planned: Large scratch on the passengers side door trim, air intake, new exhaust which I won't be installing (As well as a remap) and alloy repairs. I will try and take some pictures next time. Makes it a bit more interesting I guess, rather than just text. :p

Engine dissembled down to just the block (crank & pistons left in, stock 2jz bottom end power yo)

Block cleaned/degreased then painted with iron from vht. Paint still needs to be cured, but result so far is still quite nice. Will take some better photos in sunlight tomorrow

Engine bay degreased and cleaned, came out really nicely.

It's basically a builders truck so it isn't built at all with refinement in mind, I'd imagine it'll make a big difference the cabin noise.

A builders truck? Are you yet again commenting on things you have ZERO clue about? This isn't some cheap truck for work, it's $40k, leather, vinyl, soft carpets.

This truck is the quietest vehicle I've ever owned, far quieter than even my 330, I just wanted to remove some road noise from the rear as there's no real sound proofing on the rear wall. It made a difference, quieter, audio sounds better.

Fox, stick to BMW's.

a few days ago but wrapped(properly) some of my trim on the 3, didn't like the silver/gray finish so this matt-ish carbon look is very refreshing.

Just seeing the photos of the car in that disassembled state makes me twitch a bit. Would love to undergo a project like that with someone who knew what they were doing, would be fascinating and I might actually learn something :)

Looks similar to the hexagon trim in the E46

That trim looks like it was refurbished by a pro!

;)

You're welcome to help me with my MR2 engine rebuild, all we need is somebody who actually knows what they're doing :p

Meh, it was alright :D

I was gutted when I sold it. I was like an excited kid at Christmas showing him all the stuff that had been done like the trim, steering wheel etc and he couldn't care less!

Didn't check the oil, arches; coolant, tyres, service history...nothing! Test drive was 10 minutes and he gave me my asking price. Travelled all the way from Manchester as well. Very odd sale.
