Bed bugs in £180 hotel room!

To be fair they dealt with us fairly for an event that was out of their hands in the main but we got total refunds for the entire weekend party food and drinks as well and free stays and discounts but it did ruin a new year.

Bites starting to come up now. Good point raised regarding taking the bugs home with us.

What about Dettol antibacterial wash? Was planning to put all our clothes in the wash with some of the above. Do we really need a specific chemical to stop.them spreading?

Yes. Bed bugs are horrible blighters and VERY resilient to most chemicals.

People are slamming Brum but it seems like a nice place. Watched Eye in the Sky at the Electric Cinema last night (oldest working cinema in England) and the Chinese afterwards at the Ching Young in Chinatown was one of the best Chinese meals I've ever had.

I don't think it is so much a case of slamming Birmingham (some bits are **** though, Solihull is much nicer :p ) but just surprise that you pad that sort of room rate, AFAIK there are mostly 4* hotels at best in the city centre and I thought they were cheaper than that.

Also I it is the Chung Ying restaurant you wacist!

Obviously going home with the bugs is the biggest issue now. Its either a matter of getting the hotel to give you money to buy a new set of clothes or having a guarantee that your existing clothes will be professionally cleaned and rid of the blighters.

Also, i would be asking for new cases as how would you clean them properly?

Let's keep the hotel name out of it for now
They are doing what they can to fix it, have taken steps to keep the OP happy and are being reasonable.

Doesn't matter; people need to know that it happened and where it did. I suspect the OP is keeping the name on the down low for now while the situation is ongoing, but back home I expect him to spill.

Even if just to know they handled it well in the end and I could add it as a good point to staying with them.

A permethrin solution should kill them no worries. So you can soak your clothes in that. You can buy travel bottles (expensive) or get it from a tack shop, as it's often used to treat horses.

Be careful with permethrin if you have cats at home!

But yeah that stuff does the business.

It's rare to find a rate much less than that at either of the 2 hotel chains that that company run.

To be fair I've stayed in both of their chains in various places including their other one in Brum and their CS has always been excellent I'd keep pushing till your happy especially with the clothes they need properly cleaned but they can't expect you to go out and about in one of their robes never mind how nice they are.

As said simply bin the clothes and cases. Its not worth the risk of taking them home with you. All the best for the rest of your weekend:)
