Drone hits passenger jet

They should just ban them stupid drones..

Having some Privacy is bad enough now days with all the mobile camera's ,web cams, dash cams, Cams the outside of loads of buildings, Cams at work places etc etc and now we got all these these flying camera's

They are not going to ban them. Too many media companies (BBC included) use UAVs for all of their aerial shots these days.
Also, when I've got a drone in the air, I've got far too many things to photograph that are way more interesting than people.
You want to ban cameras on phones too because they might invade your privacy too?

Kinda sad that remote control aircraft in the form of planes and helicopters have been around for as long as radio control itself without that much issue.

I dont have a problem with it, was an rc car guy dhring my teenage years and i'm all for folk having a hobby that doesnt involve any drink/drugs but people really need to exercise some common bloody sense. All i could do with my 3ft 50mph petrol powered beasts was break someones ankle very badly so i made sure to use it on private land or obscure places as opposed to charging at kids in a playpark which lets face it is what this is only with far more disastrous consequences.

If people are gonna be morons like this no wonder we cant have nice things, look what nearly happened with airsoft and folk sticking up banks

You think flying a drone into a passenger plane would be easy to do on purpose? It wouldn't.

How wouldn't it? Not as if a plane can swerve out of the way! During take off and landing there are only set routes it can take. It's effectively a sitting duck. I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen one of these things loaded with some explosives by now.

From what little drone flying i've done, theyre not as easy to point to a specific location as you'd think.

Was only a matter of time; they're dangerous in the wrong hands and I don't think the general public should be allowed to buy or use them in my opinion.

I guess a lot of essential things in life are dangerous in the wrong hands though, but drones are not essential.

Headshots with RC cars are also possible ;)

BBC said:
Before Oscar's accident seven weeks ago his family were unaware of the potential safety issues surrounding drones.

Really? How dumb do you have to be to not realise that "sharp object" rotating "at speed" isnt a safety issue?

Airsoft guns and remote control helicopters, planes and cars are all equally as dangerous (certainly all capable of inflicting equivalent or worse injury as depicted in that article)

All are non essential to the economy, all are available to the general public, and yet i've only ever witnessed one injury from the use of any of them (mate got his tooth shot out at airsoft, if only someone made some kind of mesh mask to stop that from happening).

The object is dangerous, but not in the hands of someone sensible who knows what theyre doing. If the cadets can put semi automatic military caliber rifles in the hands of kids without incident then the general public should be able to have the nonce to not do stuff like this.

But not everyone going be sensible with there drones like the media companies and like you most likely are..

How can you claim cars are not essential to the economy? There's the manufacturing and export of them for a start, insurance and taxation.

At least there is some regulation around airsoft gun purchasing/ownership.

I was referring to remote controlled cars

The only control of airsoft guns is they must be bought by someone over 18, it'll be 2 tone but just as good as any other one. The regulations are specifically for "realistic imitation firearms" ie the ones that look real and aren't sprayed orange or made of clear plastic, most shops offer 2 toning as a service so literally any airsoft gun (including a minigun if you've got a few grand to spend but cba getting the ukara) can be bought by anyone over 18

He said Remote Control vehicles, not real ones.

The control for these drones operates on known frequencies (from my RC boat days), would it be something as simple as finding out what airport/aircraft equipment operates on the same frequencies and, if the answer is none, add high power transmitters (acting as jammers) to block/over-power the drones receiver, stopping it's use?

I understand some drones come with a "return to home" function if the drone loses signal so it's not like drones would start falling out the skies :D

I don't see why it would screw it up for everyone. If you drive at 150mph on the motorway and smash into loads of cars, do they ban driving?

How do you even compare the two, nearly every thread you comment in is similar by totally missing the point in your opinions.

How long before terrorists whack a little handful of explosive to a drone and do the same again....
