My 3tb has died (everything all 2tb plus lost :() looking at buy a new 4tb+ one and have found a SSHD, specs:

Seagate ST4000DX001 4 TB 3.5" Internal Hybrid Hard Drive - 8 GB SSD Cache Capacity - SATA - 5900 - 64 MB Buffer - OEM

Is this a good idea to use in a HtPC I will still be booting off my SSD that's has Windows on, so this will only be used to store movies, TV ect.

I'm not fussed at the extra cost over a standard 4tb, if this will load faster, ie click for a movie and there is no delay, not that I often have one but as times I get the spinning wheel on Xmbc while the move/tv series loads.

This is only around £25 more than the standard HD.

Would like to buy this today.
Cheers for any replies/suggestions :)

It will only load films faster if you watch the same ones repeatedly in a short time period. The SSHD caches frequently accessed data, so useful as a large capacity OS drive (in for eg a laptop/pc with a single drive). Since you have an ssd already it would be a waste of £25.

Yeah that's kind of what I thought :(. Thanks.
