Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

Well, just got her home :D



Box not as big as i expected and only had to wait about 5 mins in OCUK :eek:, which was crazy cus it was heaving in there. I've waited longer than that even when the place is deserted before now (hope i didn't steal someone elses order they were waiting for).


Replaces this



Just need to get her unboxed and set up (meat n tater pie first though)
 
Got it up and running and so far just added the profile from tft central and set the settings in nvidia control panel to 2560x1440 @ 60hz (to stop my card clocking up on desktop) and under "manage 3d setting" - "Global settings" have set :-

Monitor Technology = G-sync
prefered refresh rate = Highest available
vertical sync = on

not touched anything in the monitors osd yet.

am i doing it right? Have been playing the witcher lately (the first one as wanna play through 1+2 before getting 3) and it does seem capped at 144 fps where as before on my 60hz monitor was getting anything upto 400 fps in some small buildings with v-sync off (capped at 60 with it on). Does look a lot smoother aswell, even to my old man eyes.


*edit* although watching 1440p vids on youtube do look a lot smoother at 144hz than at 60hz

I have my desktop running at 144hz without idle clocks being affected. i am however running on the 364.x bracket of drivers so theres that. If i recall correctly 120hz desktop should work even on older drivers without affecting idle clocks.
 
Ah yeah,i'm on 359.06, was gonna update a while back but that was when the drivers were playing up for people so didn't bother in the end. I take it the latest drivers are ok.
 
I think they refresh the this week only on wednesday morning, probably when they open for business. Although it wouldn't be the first time something has rolled over and gone cheaper on me :rolleyes:, don't bank on the offer being available still on wednesday morning, get in by tuesday night if you're ordering online.

Been looking for a new monitor to replace my old 24” Dell Ultrasharp as it is starting to show it age a little now.
I have had my eye on this for a while now and seeing on ‘This week only’ has provoked an interest to buy.

It will be used purely for Gaming but I do some freelance design work on it but colour accuracy isn’t massively important
as I have never had a proper colour calibrated monitor. I usually rely on Pantone books for reference anyway.

My main Concerns are would my current rig struggle to run modern titles with decent quality settings?
(recently upgraded GPU due to my old dying)

You will be fine mate the 980ti is a perfect card for 1440p imo that is why i have one :) also can you not overclock that i7 2600k ?

I just used the boards standard Overclock pr-set, so it is sat at about 4.2

I'm not much of a big an overclocker really. Just squeezing the last bit of life out of it before I upgrade the CPU board etc.

In all honesty I want to upgrade the board and CPU but need to do a bit of research into it.

Ah ok i just seen the 3.4ghz:) well a new cpu would no offer a massive performance difference for gaming than what you have now imo unless you use cpu intensive software ect.. the dell is a great monitor and G-sync is really nice to have dont think i could go without it now.
 
Just took delivery of mine today, wow!!

Moving from a 22" 1080p monitor to this is simply stunning.

Just got to wait for the missus to notice it now when she gets in this evening haha.

Games look unreal on it.
 
How does this compare to the PG278Q? I need another 27" 1440p g-sync and this is over £100 cheaper. Alarm bells are ringing.

Having tried both i prefer the DELL. Its the same panel as fare as i know but the coating seemed stronger on the SWIFT which was to grainy for my taste, it also had a yellowish tint to pure white content. could have course just be the sample i had. The Dell can be made to look amazing for a TN fairly easy, even without calibration hardware. Pick the dell, looks better(my opinion ofcourse), performs at least the same and DELL warranty is suppose to be better and its a good deal cheaper.
 
£379.99 was the final pull, ordered.

Typical I get this just as I sell off one of my GTX670's, I hope Nvidia don't take too long releasing GP104 Pascal. :<
