Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

My wife's got a Moto G 3rd gen and she loves it apart from a problem with volume. When she calls people they can hardly hear her and the volume is at max. I know it's her phone cos she can speak to people fine using my Nexus 5. Is the phone buggered? Only had it about 6 months so might have to take it back.

Ok, so with this new android M 'SD card as internal storage' feature I thought it would solve my lack of space issues... alas not.

Here I am with 4.99gb of 5.51gb of internal storage used, and 297mb of 29.33gb of sd card storage used, with 14 updates to apps waiting, which.... won't install due to insufficient storage!:mad:

I've tried uninstalling spotify at 700mb, and resinstalling to see if it would install onto the sd card, nope.

Even an app which is installed on the SD card, won't update due to insuffcient storage.

Ah - just found the option to move apps onto the SD card! Hopefully that may help... edit: nope, none of the apps that can be moved, want to move. internal error every time.

Is the Moto G 2015 2GB RAM still the best budget handset?

Myself and the missus have one and really can't complain at all. We both had G1 and now on the G3 2015 2gb.

I'm happily running everything I need and I would definitely class myself as a power user.

Battery life is good at well over a day for heavy use up to 3 days on light use.

Only things I wish it had were a slightly better camera (really not that bad to be fair) and NFC but those weren't deal breakers for me.

I have the 2 Gen with MM on & it's now a lag fest. Just a useless pile of junk now. No matter how many resets I've done.

Cheap by name cheap by nature.

Never again Moto

The 2nd Gen is only 1gb ram and only 8gb storage, the 3rd gen has 2gb ram and 16gb storage, these make a big difference. I was using a 2nd gen and then got the 3rd gen, the difference is night and day.

Not quite two. There is a 1GB and a 2GB version of the 3rd gen.

I think how well they optimize the phone for the OS has a lot to do with it. Not just with the Moto G but a lot of phones have decent hardware but run slowly with OS updates. Yet a new phone with similar internals will run fine. One is optimised, the other isn't.

Yes, but the question was about the Moto G 2015 2GB, the 1Gb version of the 3rd gen is only 8gb storage too.

The 3rd gen 1gb/8gb is no slower than the 2gb/16gb. The extra ram is mainly going to make a difference in multitasking and future proofing. It doesn't explain why the 2gen is so laggy for some people.

You see this in Windows Phones where faster hardware is actually slower than lower spec phones due to the lack of optimisation for the hardware.

You see it a lot in Android due to fragmentation and forced obsolescence.

I need to replace my 1st gen moto g - the screen is cracked & it's getting flaky. Instead of payg I'm going to get a contract phone this time but no-one seems to offer the 2gb 2015 model ..which is a bit annoying:/

Not sure if its been posted but i got a security update today for my moto g 16gb model first gen. Thought maybe a new android update os but nope just a small security update. Took about 20-30 mins to install tho with all the booting etc.

4th generation of Moto G ,3 in the line up.

I'm trying a new video catagory 'News' and have kicked it off with a quick look over the two (from what I can see) Moto G 4's

I probably shouldn't have been in such a hurry, I see there is a bit more info than I had in the article linked above. :(
