The Jungle Book (2016)

Before I say what I'm going to say, bear in mind that when I was a nipper, films were very different. A nip slip was an instant 21 and a swear word was an instant 18. And what the hell was a drugs? I also don't have any kids so I don't know how desensitized kids are nowadays but there are a few moments in this films which could be properly scary for a kid. I'm not saying don't go see it, I'm just saying be on your toes. Then again I might be completely wrong. Just some food for thought.

We have a tendency to watch anything borderline first, then take her if we think it is suitable. It's a PG so is likely to be fine for her but I'll check some reviews/opinions.

Interesting how careful they were not to include any speaking parts from the kid in the entire trailer. The kid (the protagonist) is going to be the weakest link of this green screen movie, you want to bet?

Sorry, missed this. He was actually very, very good. This kid has a very bright future ahead of him.

And yes, for those concerned, the songs are in it :D

When i heard it was being re-made i had no idea it was a proper film, if that's the right term. I had thought it would have been Animated again. Looks good though

It is animated, but differently, and extremely well. I think Mowgli is the only real person in the film.

Saw this yesterday at the local Curzon cinema. The screen was only small and I was right on the back row and I couldn't properly hear the characters voices from the front speakers. I went to tell a member of staff and he told me it was just the soundstage of the film and it was the same when he watched it the day before (music was coming out of the speakers right above my head drowning out the overly quiet fronts). Very strange explanation from him, he said he'd speak to the manager to see if they could turn it up but no idea if they did or I just adjusted eventually.

Other than this the film was great, very impressive CGI and a great watch. Would have been great on an IMAX screen

I saw this last night in IMAX 3D. Very impressed. Although they did change the story a little. I actually really enjoyed it.

My first time watching IMAX 3D, it's annoying you have to keep your head in one position all the time otherwise it just goes blurry!

Saw it this evening and was hugely disappointed. The first hour or so was just so BORING. Nothing about it was good; it wasn't funny, exciting or interesting. I was totally underwhelmed with the visuals too. The songs weren't a patch on the original.

Christopher Walken's King Louie was the best part, and the turning point for the film..where it actually became half decent.

What a waste. Stick to the original.

3/10.

What did you expect from the film though? (genuine question, not trying to dispute your thoughts). Did you see the trailer before going?

I must admit that going in expecting the same fun filled, colourful adventure as the original would lead to huge disappointment, as this was a very different interpretation of the books. This was a much more sinister, sombre way of doing it and I think it was fantastic (but again this is purely my opinion).

Didn't really know what to expect to be honest. I saw one of the trailers and thought it looked great. I just wanted something entertaining. Wasn't expecting it to be the film of the year, but just left so disappointed. Really was sitting there thinking 'this is boring' during the first 2/3 of the film.

Didn't find it that sinister either (other than Shere Khan). Kaa was in it for what felt like 2 minutes. Balloo wasn't funny (I chuckled once at a comment he made). Gutted really, as I went in with pretty high expectations. Also quite predictable, knowing what was coming of what character they were about to introduce.

I am wondering how my five (nearly six) year old would respond to this. Some things do worry him in films... mostly monsters [ugly things] and some threat elements. So I'm interested to know how others with kids of a similar age have found and dealt with it.

I was totally underwhelmed with the visuals too.

Really!... Obviously I haven't seen it, but judging by the trailer (and everything else I've seen and heard) the visual aspect looks amazing. I'm staggered someone thinks its underwhelming, unless the trailer is unrepresentative of the film as a whole?

On a related note... I wonder if the people who make films like this get peed off with every commentator, and even the films director, saying "its all done by computers" ?.... No, its all done by very talented people using computers. Its almost implied the computer magically does it all, with no intervention from anyone. Films from Disney's past always praise the work of the animators; they don't say "it was all done by paints and pencils" :)

Fair enough, each to their own. For me it was an absolute masterpiece, I loved every second of it except for Shere Khan's voice / accent. Just goes to show how people can have such differing opinions.

Redline, if your boy / girl is a bit sensitive to scary stuff then I'd definitely read up a but more on it, the last thing you want is to alienate a child from one of the most amazing kids stories ever :)

Its a tough one, as you have no idea how they'll react until they go through it... I was traumatised by the death of Bamby's mother as a nipper, and my wife by the ghost rabbit in Watership Down, yet this is nothing compared to some of the stuff for kids now... Wolfblood, which my ten year watches on CBBC is quite graphic at times and way above anything from my childhood TV.

Anyway, we'll certainly think seriously about this one.

I'm also (from the clips) not impressed by Idris as Khan and nor was I by him in Zootrpolis... he's a great actor, but his voiceovers sound off for some reason.

It's amazing how much things have changed since I was a kid. I often watch films rated 15 and it never fails to amaze me what kids watch nowadays. Things that would've given me nightmares for weeks (that said, I found ET scary when I was a kid ).

Oh well going to see it after
work tonight. Probably not a good idea after being up since 5 am. I'm Deffo going in with a open mind. I hope it's not so bad I actually have a nap.

Well its alright.... The CGi is very impressive in parts and a little but less so in others but overall quite amazing.
A bit dark and a few implied deaths, Idris Elba, I cant help just imagining him as Luther no matter what he does. He seems to be very flavour of the month now too. I like him but too much of a good thing....
Its an alright film... its the jungle book, its a freaking kids movie... Its not going to blow your mind on all levels but for CGI and talking bears and crap its very good.

We made the decision to go, having first watched the trailer with our youngest, and he was keen to see it based on that. He was mostly fine with the content, although the jump scares got him, and all of us tbh... one of two senior ladies sat in front of us jumped more than I've seen anyone jump before, poor thing :D

I think its a really good film, but maybe short of great... its a little slow to start, and it takes a while to accept such realistic looking animals talking, more so than a cartoon. It is quite visceral at times, and I would not take under fives, or very sensitive children, who would certainly be scared... I'm sure a lot of people will be caught out by this.

The visual are amazing, very naturalistic and un-hyped for the most part, which is maybe why some are not so impressed... for a film that's 99% CG its quite an achievement imo.

I was dragged to this today - set my mind to "don't think - just relax" and thought it was watchable.

The CGI is good. There is one particular moment when the young Cubs are surrounding Mogli which was stunning. After I stopped trying to be critical I was pleased to find I didn't think about the CGI for the rest of the film, which is a massive thumbs up as I usually find it really distracting.

If you thinking you might enjoy it, you probably will. If you want to listen to some funky tunes, you won't, as only two songs are done in the body of the film and those are nods to the famous cartoon rather than memorable / best bits.

Went to see this today with my kids, they enjoyed it. I thought it was a very poor attempt at imitating the original animation.

The CGI was good but everything else was wrong : the pace was slow, story was unfaithful to the kipling book, the voice overs were badly casted (Idris Elba really?) and the dialogue was poor.
