Happy St George's Day

I can't see what the big issue is with celebrating your country? Why must it be deemed nationalist, racist, whatever else?

Well it is English nationalism, but that's a good thing, as for morons seeing racist connotations that don't exist, good, hope they get ulcers over it :-)))

it's been a great St-George's day, sunshine, got my little boy a gift for his Saint's day, great big smile on his face, now Mrs Tosno is making home made fish n' chips :D

Same here, hosting family today with a proper roast planned for this evening to celebrate in style, we'll have a few drinks later too, probably Bombardier Glorious English ;)

I agree...somewhat, should all patron saint's days be ignored? I certainly think so, starting mainly with St. Patrick's day. It's not even British ***.

Ireland is one of the British Isles, I would say that St Patricks day is a British festival even if it is not necessarily an English/Scottish/Welsh one.

Uh... no. Dinosaurs were long dead by the time humans existed.

Dinosaur bones weren't just discovered by the Victorians!

People have been digging these bones up for thousands of years!

The idea that the discovery of these bones might have lead to the idea of "Dragons" or "Giants" is not unreasonable.

For me the stupid part is St George, a foreigner who never visited England is our Saint.

England is weird like that. Consider the two most famous English kings - Arthur and Richard the Lionheart. Arthur (assuming he existed) wasn't English and fought against the English. Richard wasn't English and blighted England by gouging money out of it to fund his attempt to become king of France. Alfred, arguably the greatest king of England, is almost totally forgotten and most of the few people who know about him know him only as someone who burnt some cakes.

St Hilda would probably be a better choice for the patron saint of England, given how much influence she had in shaping Christianity in England.
