Surely by his own view it is wrong that he gets all that, being born into it and all. He really ought to move himself to the most destitute part of the world, living in mud and drinking rat pee then work up from there before he can justify his current position life.

Aides complained to ministers in 2004 that the Queen's gas and electricity bills, which had increased by 50 per cent that year, stood at more than £1m a year and had become "untenable".

The Royal Household also complained that the £15m government grant to maintain the Queen's palaces was inadequate.

In search of more money-saving schemes, the Queen's deputy treasurer wrote to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to ask whether the Royal Household would be eligible for a grant to replace four combined heat and power (CHP) units at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

He asked: "Community Energy can fund up to 40 per cent of the capital costs of implementing a community heating scheme... Since we are already grant-in-aid funded [the Queen receives £15m a year for the upkeep of her palaces] we would like to know whether the Household [would] be able to benefit from these grants. I look forward to your comments."

How about abolishing the monarchy and setting the main palaces as tourist attractions? The entire "Royal Family" should be cut from our society.

In many ways people here are defending a group of people based on who they are. All people are equal unless you are part of the family. They are also corrupt and their past is and carries the same notion that we should be referring tyrants and shysters.

I'm no royalist, but I appreciate the level of work she does and by god I wouldn't want to do it...but it's risible to describe it as 'slavery with a few perks' :D:D:D

If she didn't like it she could always abdicate.

Oh please. What absolute bunkum. The royal family a slave family? The same family that has made countless billions from slavery are slaves themselves?

Just a scintilla of her wealth (that is in the many tens of billions) could ensure all of Londons homeless have somewhere to stay. Question things more than what the tabloids tell you to think. Its a bit like Wills and Kate (cousins) the "happy" couple.

"Work" you forget what that "work" costs. The only individual in the world possibly who is guaranteed a pay rise each and every year by law. How much of it is for herself and how much of it is for the benefit of the people?

I long for the day when she and those like her who think blue blood preserves their lineage are thrown to the annals and the sycophantic hysteria that follows them has the truth revealed to them. Vast wealth and opulence that will not ever be shared. She is literally dripping in gold only to cover the horrors of history and the blood that is on her families hands

Her normal working day is already covered above in big letters just in case you can't read.
When she finishes around 8pm she can't sit down and play a computer game or watch Game Of Thrones but probably goes straight to bed to repeat & rinse.

I find that report highly misleading indeed. Much like the wealth of the Rothschilds, never or rarely mentioned as part of rich lists and yet a junior reporter found $20bn worth of wealth for Evelyn iirc and that's just what he is down on paper in one small area.

If you seriously believe the Queen is not as wealthy as lottery winners, well you wont want to take off the wooly jumper.

Really? Well I'm glad you know what people can and cannot do so well! Excellent judge of ability. She is only kept in her position by virtue or her ancestry, she is not elected and much of the past as well as the present behaviour of the Royals is having Stalins dictat applied to it : Erase the parts of history we don't like

No you couldn't do it, you have to be born into it and be prepared for it from when you are born.
None of us on these forums would be capable of serving the public 24/7 and live your life by a strict time sheet including your time off.
So yes I am an excellent judge of character on this particular job role.

Fell into my trap perfectly... So we abolish the monarchy and what happens to those critical meetings? I would be betting that a few people could oversee those engagements for a fraction of the cost and we would hope more altruistically than they are presently done. I found it most concerning seeing a homeless man just a stones throw away from Buckingham Palace when last I went to London. Where is the help for the average man?

Edit: Just to preponderate the position more it must clearly be impossible for republics to do anything without a monarchy... Just saying

How did I fall into a trap where if you bothered to look further up I already stated that the country could run without her.
The only problem is (besides her other jobs) she has over 430 engagements a year where her involvement helps to bring in lots of trade and other people won't have the same impact or respect that the Queen has.
Many people think it's all about tourism but that's only scratching the surface.
