what's your opinion on this ( daily mail link )

The article also states that the water station volunteers are told not to get into any altercations when this sort of thing happens.
It's more likely standing helplessly by than actively encouraging them to take it.

I take it you have all glossed over this ?

Quote:
London Marathon have said they are aware of the footage and will be investigating the incident.

Hugh Brasher, Event Director for London Marathon Events Ltd, said: “It’s very disappointing to see water being stolen in this way from the official water stations for our runners.

I don't think their statement holds water.

If they was
If they was
If they was
If they was
If they was
If they was
If they was

Well I didn't miss this.
Has a competitor in many marathons and half marathons this is definitely not minutes into the race.

LOL minutes into the race. 100,000 empty bottles. Daily Mail logic is infallible, brown people are bad, m'kay?

From my experience those runners are probably doing around 15+ minutes/mile and Deptford is 7.5 miles into the Marathon.
The last car is usually doing a 5 hour marathon and I'm sure the article said the last bus had gone past.

If these people are so keen on Buxton water (not needed any more for most of the runners if at 1:15pm) I say let them have it. I can't see that there is a lucrative market for stolen water.
Where does the unused water normally go? It can't be sold, so it must either be thrown away or go to charity. These people seem to be people who need the charity of water and they are saving it from having to be collected and transported.

The article says
'The mob were pictured descending on tables laid out with liquid just after the 26.2 mile event started'
and then just under that says:
'The theft is understood to have taken place at 1:15pm '
1:15pm is well after most of the runners would have gone past as has been pointed out above.

But no one said they could have it according to the organisers.

The Marathon started at 10:10am and the water taken at 13:15pm:eek:
Deptford is 7.5 miles from the start and even if the 'runners' were walking they should have got there in 150 minutes at average walking speed.
That's 24 min/mile
