What have you done to your car today?

It looks like this now, not too noticeable & if it lasts 2 months 'til I can sort it properly i'm happy -

That looks pretty damn good especially for a temporary fix. I'd be happy with that :)

Drove the Octavia to work for the first time this morning, it was great. Much much quieter, much more relaxing, less gear changes required, really light clutch, and it averaged an indicated 64.6MPG with a mixture of 65MPH (GPS) driving on the motorway, and heavy traffic! :)

What age/engine Octavia did you go for? I need to keep my options open for if/when my 320d's timing chain goes as although it's served me very well for 2 years/61k miles, it still owes me another 9 or 10 months so I won't be shelling out substantial cash until then ;)

washed my car this morning, and the time it took me to walk to the garage, pick up my drying towel and come back out..... a bird had poo'd on the roof, windscreen and bonnet.... but thankfully not through my letterbox

That's quite fortunate if you ask me

Yesterday I had to clean a bit of poo that was in the gap between the car window and rubber seal

Please don't take the rear seats out :p
Don't worry, that was just moment of madness... :p

It is a 2003 (53) Octavia BlueLine (Limited Edition spec with all the 'normal' options like remote central locking, electric windows, air conditioning etc, and then cruise control and a VRS spoiler for some reason, in a nice metallic blue)

Mine has the 90HP pre-PD 1.9TDI lump. It is what it is, and I rather like it, but I don't think it would be something to go to from a 320D! 0 - 60 takes about 13 seconds, but if you are trying to achieve that you're driving it wrong. :)

Yeah it's more a case of financially, the 320d owes me about 9 or 10 months before my work car allowance has paid it all off. If it carries on going then all is good. If it dies before then, then I'll need something a bit cheaper to tide me over until the 320d is paid off and in my mind the car allowance is 'free' money again.

All may be good yet though, but just need to keep my options open just in case :)

Well the Octavia was £1350 in excellent condition, with full service history, no niggles or rust, a cam-belt and water pump 20K ago, new shocks and brakes, x2 keys, and 161K on the clock. (nothing at all for one of these engines!)

Ordered some new mats, new heater control knobs, and new numberplates for it too. Just needs an armrest now and its all systems go.

I'm only getting 36MPG from my Octavia... :( Was getting around 55MPG average from my Astra...

It's a VRS diesel tbh I'm really disappointed with its fuel consumption. I drive pretty sedate and it's still rubbish well under 40mpg even on a run.

That sounds broken! Surely it should be much higher than that on a run? I'm seeing high 30's in my Fiesta ST with mixed driving. Granted it's a smaller engine and lighter.

Couple more bits painted/cleaned and test fitted. Still waiting on the correct tool so I can torque the head down properly!

Engine mounts & brackets restored.

Just have the fuel rail, intake piping & alternator to sort out before all pieces are ready to go back on.

Just ordered a Cobalt Rear silencer for the MX5 now that Moss Europe have them back in stock.

Should give a nicer exhaust note over stock without being chav loud, and deals with current one blowing as well

Seems a bit low if doing journeys at a decent speed, I averaged around 37mpg from my mk2 tsi over 400 miles at a decent average speed on Tuesday
