I actually feel upset and sick :(

upset and sick i thought this was going to be about the new stock cooler :o
they prob not on shelves for 2 months yet, enjoy!

Not to mention probably even longer if waiting for the third party cards (I'd be waiting for the EVGA hydrocopper versions personally!).

The fact that they mentioned massively improved performance specifically in VR has me looking at my 2x 980Ti's and humming, but we need to see what happens once they are out and in people's hands.

Personally I'll try to wait until the EVGA 1080Ti hydrocopper type card is out, which may be another year at least I guess! If developers can start properly exploiting VR SLI then I'll have no problem waiting :)

Yes, It was a bad time to buy, but the 980Ti is still going to be a good card and will keep you playing things very well for some time yet.

In future, always buy the new cards on release or the old cards AFTER the new cards have come out (meaning the old cards get sold off at lol prices)

Enjoy your card bud, There is ALWAYS something new around the corner, Unless you are like some of us here *me included* with no real responsibilities, Getting the latest and greatest every single time can get expensive and sometimes sees no real benefits.

That's really the biggest nonsense but everybody keeps saying it.

There is always something newer coming in the future, but that could be 2 years from the date the current gen launches.

Do you guys see no difference - at all - between waiting a couple weeks for a new gen, to waiting up to a couple years for a new gen?

Because frankly it's tiresome that people keep saying this. If a new gen is coming out in two-three weeks you'd have to be clinically insane to spend £500 of the top card from the last gen.

Sorry but it's true.

The 980Ti is a fantastic card and a lot of people will still be envious to this day that you have one. Technology moves a seriously fast pace so just enjoy what you have as the 980ti will happily run most games at near full settings. So in short, get gaming and enjoy!

You've taken what I said completely out of context and then added on to it :p

He can't get a refund on his card so he might as well enjoy it.

If one is in the market for a new card then yes it pays to wait if the release is only less than a month away but if you buy it not knowing that and still enjoy your purchase then where's the problem ?

Mountain out of a mole hill extremely quickly.

Was not just a reply to you tho.

So many people trot out the tired old line that "something new is always coming".

It's like people have no sense of timing.

New cards 1-2 months away = different scenario to new cards 1-2 years away.

And yet the advice is given time after time afater time ... "Don't wait! You could wait forever!" like it's some kind of amazing insight that we might have missed :p

Annoys me, yo.

Completely agree with that.

Long story short I built my very first gaming PC a few weeks ago, I bought a lovely 980 TI GPU. However, I just heard a new GPU has just come out which is x2 better than the 980 Ti which I just purchased.

Should I of waited? I feel bad now, I got this GPU but now a new GPU has just been released which is practically 980 Ti in a SLI in a single card.

With all these information and benchmarks we have today, especially on DX12 gaming, why for the love of god you bought a 980Ti?

I agree.

It is true that "there's always something new in the future", but do you buy a new car, knowing that a brand new model is a matter of a couple of months away ? You might do if :

You get a discount on the outgoing model.

You know that the new model is no better than the old model.

You are impatient.

I've waited a few months to upgrade my graphics card, knowing that newer (and hopefully much improved) technology isn't far away. Willing to wait a few more months before spending several hundred quid on something that I'll probably be using for 3 years.

But when its a full fat new gen gaming card coming out from Nvidia? .
And no i dont meant the 1080.
I'd pretty much bet it is next year. 980ti isnt suddenly turn into a bad card overnight. (i do think driver optimisation for it will slow/stop thou).
AMD vegas is 2017 aswell? so its not like a new card will be here in a month or 2

Me too. I don't understand the advice "if you wait for new tech, you'll always be waiting".

It's all about timing.

Hmmm, I didn't have a choice really- had a Rift and Vive to play with and only had a 285GTX! So had to buy something a month ago! Seems I'm stuck with a 980ti now!

Exactly. I found it sad when people were listening to easyrider and a few others were saying buy a 980Ti now, why wait, with only a few months to go for a big process shrink. It was worse as he would jump in and argue in many threads saying this. Now a lot of those people are feeling upset and sick for taking such bad advice.

One of the graphs showed relative game performance with a 1080 at 5 and a TX at 3.5, so around 40% faster than a Titan X. An overclocked Ti can reach about 20% faster than a stock TX so it's not much slower, plus the 1080 will be more expensive at release and 3rd party cards probably won't show up for a bit longer. Enjoy your card, I've had mine for 2 months and am still very pleased with the purchase, it'll blow through games at 1440p for another year or so and you won't have to feel sore as yoi could then pick up an HBM Pascal v2 (or at least that's my plan, depending on what games come out etc).
