So who is actually going to buy a 1070 or 1080 ?

Quick Google shows the RRP as $599 USD.
Another site says "GTX 1080 will cost £450 and launch May 27"

If it's £450, I'm in for upgrading from a 980.

No, LOL, £600+ more likely as Founder's Edition (Reference) will be released first and therefafter (June it seems) we'll see cheaper cards, but £450 will not happen for sometime, £500 is more realistic.

Assuming the reviews are good, I'll be replacing my 760 with a 1070 (probably gigabyte or evga). I don't feel the need to upgrade every generation, but passing on the 9xx series was a struggle at times...

Don't get why people say they will wait for a ti version, The 1080 is the high end card untill a ti version comes out, then 80 version will come out again and be high end, It's a cycle, Not like the ti is going to be high end all the time.

if people already have a 980ti then they are saying that selling and upgrading is a higher price than they want to pay for the amount of "upgrade" it represents and they want to wait for the bigger upgrade in the form of the new ti

or even if they don't have a 980ti, they just don't want to upgrade twice within 12 months... which I can understand even if its a view point I intend to completely ignore myself

Possibly, but i'll wait for some reviews before I do anything. Pretty sure i'll get a bottleneck with my current specs so i'm not sure.

Anyone with a 980ti/TX or Fury X aren't really going to see a large enough increase to warrant the switch to the 1080.

Waiting for the top end card before upgrading from each series is actually quite sensible (not the TX of course but the 980ti for example), instead of buying a 1080 for £500 then upgrading to the 1080ti which will likely only be slightly higher priced as they'll drop the 1080 pricing like they did with the 980.

The 1080ti in my opinion will be a larger performance increase over the 1080 than a 1080 is to the 980ti/TX.

there is nothing sensible about man children playing video games

so my wife tells me

I ignore her and ask her to show me how much her last handbag or pair of shoes cost me :D

I think for the most part I've waited a couple of years to upgrade my 970. I'll wait a bit longer and see what AMD have to bring to the party.

Well said Andy. I have a Tx and although I want one of these the Ti will be the better option for me although I still really want one.

The biggest worry for me is still no Async. Kind of baffling why they seem not to be worried about it when the DX12 gains are huge for AMD

Waiting on reviews, but im definitely leaning towards a pair of EVGA 1070 Classified's, my 12+ year love affair with AMD Cards is about to come to an end i feel.

I have a 290 at the moment and am itching for an upgrade. I like to alternate between brands so I'm due a return to Nvidia this time around. So I'll be tempted by a 1080 based on benchmarks and pricing.

I'm going to upgrade my 7970 and 1070/1080 seem perfect. Resisting upgrading for the last 6months+. Seems like the correct decision. May even wait for the AMD announcement.
