Just find it weird that it's only England (not Wales/Scotland?) who do this to parents.

blimey have parents got whinier lately
first world problems include:
"I cant go on holiday outside of term time"
"They are ruining little Anthonys life by making him do a test"
"I demand that MY child goes to the best school in my catchment"
waaa waaa waaa
i think it would be better if schools staggered their holidays tbh so not everyone was off at the same time.
TBH the exam stuff is getting a bit stupid. Year 2 SATs? When i was in primary school it seemed like we learnt what autumn was for 4 years, as if it wouldn't come round unless we knew about it
So i guess its time to book a holiday they can afford or sort it out with the school prior to the holiday so they 'catchup' in advance.
Taking the kids away week after next
Price 1week later (in the half term) is another £3100 on top of the holiday (its actually more than the cost of the holiday).
One school permitted the holiday. The elders school did not but have told the school any fine will be challenged.
The attitude of some people here of: If you cannot afford to go then don't is clearly very limited and I would urge them not to reproduce as that kind of idiotic hair brained train of thought (that flies in the face of all reason, fairness and indeed evidence) is a problem that needs to be cut. Poor families can afford to go, just not during half terms where costs are crippling!
Lets not forget the government has ignored no less than 3 major petitions on this nit to mention some of the people involved in the people on 6 figure salaries

Make the fine £500 & he'd have thought twice.
Nothing worse than booking a holiday in term time to find when you get there its full of kids n babies being a pest all the time your there.

We have to pay for a lot of things that Wales & Scotland don't so it's not weird at all!
Keep it on topic, christ some people on here are beyond daft some times. It was a genuine question.
Bigoted is, as bigoted does apparently.
Ironically you're blaming Wales/Scotland for England having a completely screwed council/parish council and parliamentary systems which England's residents keep voting for.
I'm just saying it's not particularly surprising that English residents have to pay when residents of the other Union countries don't as it's not an uncommon occurrence, particularly within the education sector.

Have we had votes to change that sort of thing I've missed?
Have we had votes to change that sort of thing I've missed? The government says it will now look to change the law.
"We will look at the judgement in detail but are clear children's attendance is non-negotiable so we will now look to change the law," said a spokesman for the Department for Education.

Typical government - elected by the people, but don't do what the people demand.
