I know a few of the reviewers pretty well and they always give a fair review.

Honestly with the amount of people on forums that do benchmarks etc... it's not in the best interest of reviewers to skew the results because at that point who really does have a real result.

I know that Hardware Cannucks has a 1080 in his hands. I hardly expect his review to be "fair". He is hardly going to come out and say he doesn't like it. Seeing as Nvidia pays the bulk of his wages. Pay for him to go to trade shows etc. Same with plenty others. I eagerly await the Joe Public reviews.
I'm excited about these "reviews" too, just think people should see them for what they are. Pinch of salt and all that.

Are you saying that the benchmarks they post are not fair?

Nobody knows. I would guess they will at least be checked for "quality", I'll leave it at that.
But normal anyway to ensure the samples for review are decent. Even automobile manufacturers do the same. In fact performance cars often have a "press pack" applied with a few tweaks here and there.
They won't make "special" chips though and I doubt they'll go through thousands of them to cherry pick the best 6 or whatever.

I would say this is right. There's been no evidence to support the notion of anybody getting cherrypicked cards.

None of the benchmarks or measurements posted ever seem to be completely out of line with what users can actually get.

doom wont be used on reviews, openGL is not a reliable API or relevant for it to be a performance reference on reviews, unless the reviewer is a noob.

No, I think they will be fair enough. I don't think for a second there will be any lies or anything like that going on.

But equally I think they will be "favorable" and "shown in the best light".
If hardware cannucks wants to get an all expenses trip paid to E3 again, then he would do well to test games where the 1080 performs "best". and maybe leave out the games where it performed poorest...

But my cynicism aside, I am very excited to see the results. :)
