Advice on Travelling Turkey

These places love a blonde woman - expect grabbing and general harassing to occur

Never saw any of that in any of the 8 times i went.

It depends where you go, if you are in a seaside touristy area, there are just as many blonde people going round as turkish people and there is no more harassment than in places over here. Beach-side areas of Bodrum and Antalya were absolutely fine.

That's part of the fun, to be honest. They're perfectly fine with you being firm/rude with them - that's what all the natives do.

It's strange, because we were clearly uncomfortable with it, and yet the same people harassed us daily on our walks to the beach, or to get to bus stops or just anywhere really.

They're clearly doing it because they're desperate for the money... yet they've made it such an awful place to go that I'll never return.

I'll take lazy Greeks any day of the week thank you! (Saying that, the last holiday to Crete involved an awesome greek fella bringing cold beers, fruit, and home-made Raki down to the beach, so I may be biased... )

Where did you guys go where you saw harassment first hand?

I believe it but i cant see it happening in a touristy or beachy location from what i have experienced of turkey, which is a fair amount but i tend to only stick to those areas or go on tours of things like the salt flats and caves where there is literately no one else around.

Verbal harassment in Antalya, at the beach resorts it was just the usual come into my shop stuff which while a little annoying if you're just going for a stroll you can live with but in the town it was full on letching and sexual remarks so much so my younger sister refused to ever step foot in the country again or leave the hotel grounds for the rest of the holiday.

We went to turkey last july despite everyone going on about terrorism and turkey being dangerous. Loved the place would go back, Fethiye, Oludeniz both great places we stayed in Ovacik just between the two areas and visited both.

Best advice i can give
More pounds than Lira as it will net you some better deals

Drinks are not measures in any form forget your double and single talk as double will just get you two drinks and they will both be very strong regardless.

E-visa get it before and make sure your passport is all good we had a long wait behind a whole family who didn't do this and it held us up for 45 mins at border

The whole grabbing of womens hands to drag them into shops is normal, Be firm and tell them no or worse.. The locals are rude to them so don't worry!

All expensive goods are fake, take your risk if you wish..

Try the local food its lovely! Turkey is the home of the kebab and you won't find authentic kebabs like you do in turkey anywere in the UK.. we have a fast food version which is disgusting in comparison

Be mindful of there religion and don't be stupid.

One thing i will recommend also is a Turkish bath.. Lovely :)

The Turks fought hard to remain secular in recent years. They took to the streets in insane numbers. They are culturally Islamic in the sense we are culturally Christian, if that makes sense. Some of the architecture left from the Ottoman days are stunning. They love a good barter. Never pay the price on show unless it's food.

Ex went with some friends, and I've been with another group, and heard of others who have been. As soon as they spot a blonde girl they are all up in their space getting all harrassy. Apparently the darker haired girls got off much easier.

And they say blondes have more fun!
