Preparing for Fatherhood

Being a new father myself (4 month old currently) these are my top items:

* Baby Sleeping Bag - ours wriggles like mad so blankets are pointless, these are amazing.
* Teething device - because when it comes, your need it big time
* Underlayers - get more than you think you need.

a general note with clothing , look at button placement. Sounds stupid but some clothes companies really haven't thought about their products at all and have buttons in so many awkward places that in practical terms its beyond stupid and likely to wind up the baby as you attempt to button them, or take their clothes off in a rush! Buttons at the front - great, at the side - passable, many at the back - avoid avoid avoid.

Can I add that if you are married or in a serious relationship with the mum, then please take time out to have some "together time" If you don't then there is a real risk of you slipping into parenthood and slipping apart from each other.

Date night can be 2 hours to go catch a film while someone baby sits. Pay someone if you can't get someone to sit for a couple of hours. I can't stress this enough. If you don't make the effort then your relationship will die off. Children put an immense strain on a relationship so if you don't work at it, it will be killed off and you'll live like flatmates with kids.

We got lots of clothing from Primary. Given they're in them for about 30 seconds, the quality doesn't need to be amazing.

But keep in mind that anything from Next or Disney you can sell on with relative ease.

My wife has got 3/4's of the money back we've spent on baby clothes, especially on my daughters outfits. Buy in sales, sell on and it costs very little.
