So did NVIDIA lie about the prices or what?

So how come the prices of the 1080 are between £635 - £650 when they said the US pricing at $599 (~£415) for the GTX 1080, how did it get from $599 to £650?

import tax's, price gouging.. all in one basket and blended until you cannot tell the difference anymore

NVIDIA said $699 FE Edition

Prices in UK are £619-£650 FE Edition

Us person buys from UK price would be $725-$750 depending on exchange rate bank/cc gives, so UK is close to US MSRP for FE edition. :)

Do we need another thread about NVidia pricing as there is enough on the subject in the other Pascal threads.

I'm a bit confused...

$699 = £481

Add 20% to Osbourne.

=£96.

96+481 = £577.

Still a far cry from £636.... Where is the £60 coming from...?

Firstly the $599 price is for non-founders edition, For the founders editions it's $699 and you cannot simply just convert the currency as US prices never have VAT on so over here you need to add 20%.

You take $699 and get £481.55 then add 20% VAT and get £577, Now where the extra price on top of that comes from is possibly import taxes but also the fact that Overclockers seem to be charging more than their competitors.

Still a magic £20 added on for no reason.............:P

In the case of the ASUS card £30 more than another UK overclockers competitor.

there's just a £50-£60 'cos we can' tax being added since its a new product, should see a nice price drop once rush is over and non TE versions appear.

Honestly, if I were buying a USB stick, £30 extra would be a big difference. But if I'm buying a £600+ GPU then that's < 5% difference and given I have NEVER had a problem with OCUK and they even called me up once when I bought some incompatible parts just to make sure that I knew what I was buying (I did - it was for two different machines, but it was thoughtful of them to check), I am more than happy to buy from OCUK just to minimize risk and know that I'll get it on time.

And no, I don't have any shares in OCUK and I don't work for them. ;)

Yet we are paying 902 to 950 US $

I fully expected the price of the FE to be north of £600, as did many unfortunately. Just wait though, the proverbial poo poo is REALLY going to hit the fan when the AIB cards come in at the same price and more. The smattering of cards below that will be crappy blowers from lesser brands that are inferior to the FE in every way, but that most AIB's (the likes of Gigabyte, MSI, Asus etc) won't even want to put their name to. They will be releasing faster, cooler, quieter and better OC'ing cards and charging the moon, because Nvidia have allowed them to do this by setting the base price of the FE so high. The $599 1080 is a dream, or at least the 1080 we'd all want anyway. I am sure there will be a couple of models available at that price, just so Nvidia don't get sued for not following through on their price promise, but ultimately we've all been well and truly duped by the $599 price! It's all been a very carefully crafted game of smoke and mirrors.

As an american recently moved to the UK not a day passes when I don't throw up my hands in incredulity at the ridiculous prices here. You can pretty much expect near parity in dollar to pounds i.e. 50% increase in cost or more.
