Fashion advice for "The Races"

Why do people 'dress up' for these things?

What do you dress up for? Its part of our social culture to dress up for such events. And most of the time being middle class we don't have such events to dress up all the time So the feeling of being well dressed increases our happiness, but you know. Why bother.

I understand maybe a dinner, a formal meal or something for a special occasion like a wedding or big birthday or whatever dependent on the venue.

But to go gamble and watch the races and get stupidly drunk? Whats the point?

Because I don't want to be the only one in sweat pants/Tee combo whilst the other 18 in our group are all wearing suits.
Also, I spend most of my life in sweat pants (around the home) or jeans so dressing up a little once in a while is a nice change.

My advise is copy Tommy Shelby
