David Cameron buys £1500 used Nissan Micra...

He could always just do his car buying without inviting a photo crew.

Photo crew? The photo looks like it was taken by a random guy on a camera phone.

Which is almost certainly exactly what happened - DC showed up and the owner thought he'd have a photo, which seems fair enough.

Who released it to the media - the PM or the used car seller? It's good advertising for his business, so why not make a thing of it?

I doubt it was intended to be a 'thing' otherwise it would have been a proper photo shoot.

Car dealer Iain Harris says he thought ‘I’ve just sold a car to the prime minister’ after he bought secondhand car for £1,495.

This man knows what's up.

Yep, and thats exactly what I'm sure they were hoping for people to think.

Of course its a publicity stunt.

I've got a bridge for sale if you're interested?

I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if he'd bought her a RR Vogue. But this just reeks of the common man publicity desperation. Trendy wives of prime ministers do not drive around in £1500 Nissan Micras.

It probably wouldn't even have been in the news if he'd bought her a RR. Does she get police protection too? Will she have a police RR tootling along behind her when she's on the way to Aldi?

Perhaps he is going to introduce a new scrappage scheme, and making sure he has a bit of junk registered in his name in advance.

^don't they have a plant in the uk, i think that's what he means.

as for the car, cmon on his salary he's got to be able to afford his wife something nicer, and less terrifying to drive, and y'know- got her opinion on it?

Yes. It is in Washington, Tyne & Wear. One of the most productive car plants in the world.

I used to have a 1 litre micra. Excellent car. Good fun to learn to drive in, no need to be bothered if you crash etc. Good choice.

Compared to the sea of fabia's, c2's, fiestas, corsa's, clio's, yaris's, polo's etc available with decent miles at that money i may contest that.

All cars that dont make you feared of tipping them when corning faster than 10mph :D

I reckon thats why they gave the newer one a rounder roof, to help it roll back the right way up.
