Tories grant 18 fracking licences - all north of Leicester

Trains don't generally cause roof tiles to fall off, the Blackpool earthquakes did. While I appreciate that's not a particularly serious consequence of an earthquake it is annoying if you're the homeowner, and also quite worrying for everyone? Are the earthquakes going to get worse as more fracking takes place?

A good hard fart would make tiles fall off the average Blackpool gaff...

HaHa, nuclear is the most heavily 'subsidised' form of power generation. Plus we get to pay for the cleanup when it ceases production/goes wrong.

Which they conveniently omit from all the hype about "how nuclear is superior to everything else!" crap. Just how many billions is it going to take to clean up Sellafield or whatever they want to call it these days anyhow?

Aren't we sitting on enough nuclear fuel to last 1200 years or something like that?

"We" aren't sitting on anything other gas and coal, and the latter is out of fashion. Everything else has to be imported and costs y'know, real, actual money. But hey just so long as its not in our backyard eh?

Planners had recommended the Kirby Misperton plan was approved, but acknowledged the majority of representations received in consultation were objections.

Vicky Perkin, a council planning officer, told the committee that of 4,420 individual representations, just 36 were in support of the application.

Don't you just love Democracy in action :p

I hope none of those councillors get re-elected.

If they'd have voted against the fracking then the government would have just taken those decision making powers away from them, as happened at Lancashire CC I believe. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

People moan about energy prices and when there is an opportunity to get more on stream people moan. Getting more on the market causes the price to go down and it also increases our energy security so we arent so reliant on the whims of Russia or the middle east etc.

So people really want cheap energy dug up somewhere away from mainland UK by some friendly nation.

What bit are you annoyed about?

All of it as fracking is evil!

Water turns into toxic H2S, ecosystems are destroyed, children are all made infertile and the human race will disappear in the next 100yrs as a result!

I do wonder if everyone protesting understands the subject and the implications etc as well as is needed to form a rational opinion on the matter or if it is just jumping on the bandwagon to some extent.

Not saying you need to be a qualified expert in the field with certified credentials or anything but you'd hope that the opinion is based on more than biased articles in local rags.

They almost certainly don't.....

The only way is frack, baby
For you and me now
The only way is frack, baby
For you and me

All join in... :p

I don't like it because it seems to reinforce that fracking for oil/gas is the better alternative to Nuclear. Even if we had oil drums magic out of thin air, i would rather leave them be and go Nuclear.

The public are scared of words like Nuclear and radiation. Terms they dont understand which the public associates with bombs, outdated facilities and mismanaged disasters, the cold war.
