Stay with 980 Ti or upgrade to 1080 ?

keep dreaming on a £200 gtx 980 ti lmao the thing is a 980 ti is a powerful card
it can run 1440p very nicely it destroys 1080p, 780tis still reach 200 atm maybe in 3 years bud, & reason you got a 780 for £140 is because its 3 years old and has 3gb only, I actually traded mine into CEX for 130

ok on to the 1080 / 1070

the 1080 isnt going to magically gain tons of performance with an extra 6 pin
not going to happen, maybe 50-100mhz for a classified which will probs come in at £749 then a waterblock £849 all in.. hmm no thanks

1070 FE will be £409 lowest and probs £429 for an Asus variant
from the 1080 benches the 1070 will not be faster than a titan x or 980 ti
it maybe clock higher though thats about it, it will be a nice card but not for over £400

The 780 is three years old now and was 2.5 years old when I bought it. The 980ti has been around at least a year now already i'd guess? So early next year it'll be knocking on 2 years old so £200 second hand is not out of the question at all. Tech drops in value fast as there is always something better coming out and desirability of older tech diminishes fast.

See that happening with gtx 980 but not Ti

if a 980 ti is going to be £200, then what will a 1080/1070 be early next year?

£300 and £220?

:p

Depends what else gets launched ;)

Anyway, I live in hope and keep an eye on the prices as always :)

Buying second hand when a new gen gets launched is the only way to buy video cards these days if you ask me :p

Ooooooo live a little...

Get a job maybe ? :p

I have a very good job thanks :D

It's all about priorities though. I have spent a fortune doing up my house lately and on top of that, bought a new hifi, new speakers and an OLED TV. I don't really do enough gaming to justify a £620 GTX 1080 as much as i'd like one.

Finally got to the bottom of things....

Just stop telling people who do game and don't watch TV they are daft for buying one....

Everyone is on their own journey...;)

I'm not saying anyone is daft for buying one, only that they are daft for paying £620 ;)

It wouldn't be long before prices dropped if people had a bit of patience...

It's not as if a 980ti is unusable and obsolete just because something new and shiny has just come out now is it?

But they don't care...you just bought a 4K tv when nothing is broadcast in 4K...

I have a pannasonic plasma love it but I'll wait for 4K pricing to drop when it's needed.

People need gfx cards now to run high res

Linky to your TV you just bought...

In fact post a picture on the home cinema thread with a loaf and your username.

Cheers

Both my home cinemas are in there...

My TV is in the home cinema thread already (post #4594). It's an LG55EC930V, 1080p TV. I wanted an OLED had no need for 4k and thought the 1080p set was good value at £1170 :)

I couldn't justify getting a 980 when I said a 780ti and now I have a 980ti I can't justify a 1080. I have a 165hz 1440p monitor so can use the extra juice, but the difference overclocked in meh. Will see what the board partners can do with a 8+6 pin connector.

B-b-but the whole point of this subforum is gfx card willy waving! :(

It makes me sad that posts like this are deemed acceptable by the mods. This is supposed to be an enthusiasts forum, as well as being part of the sales portal for a company that sells enthusiast grade PC components.

No one would think it acceptable to go on to a skyline or M series forum modifications section and post up that anyone talking about after market turbos was "just willy waving"

The willy waving comment was maybe a bit strong.

But a lot of people do seem to spend money for the he sake of it.

Its a hobby. I know loads of peope who spend money on stuff i dont get. I even know that buying a 1080 anywhere near release I am going to pay more than if I wait, but i dont really care. Stuff always gets cheaper later, but if i get 10-20 hours a week use out of something and it ends up costing me less than a pound an hour for the amount of usage i get from it then it just happens without even thinking about it.

By the time ive sold my old kit and bought whatever i fancy, having a highend PC and constantly fiddling with it doesnt even cost me a few hundred per year, its nothing compare with most hobbies.

My kids do after school clubs and even they cost more than a pound an hour!
