Hi

I've just checked pricing at OcUK, and a lot of the brands GTX 1080 cards are priced at £639.99, with a full of the lesser tier brands being at £619.99.

I have looked at a shop based slightly north of Manchester and they have priced every single GTX 1080 at £619.99 including the cards OcUK have priced at £639.99.

Why are OcUK so greedy? The assumption is shortages and limited stock as ever, but why try to rip off loyal customers?

£20 more is hardly a rip off is it. Fuss over nothing. If you want it for £619 buy one priced at £619, or go elsewhere...

Because they didn't manage to secure the lower price from the supplier that the competitor got? Or because the competitor is selling them at less of a margin just to get the sale? Or a myriad of other reasons other than plain greed.

OCUK are a business and exist to make profit and as such they set prices accordingly. If you don't like it don't buy it, nobody is forcing you.

We used to call the asus cards being priced higher asus tax...this puts a different spin on it. Even caseking.de have all their cards listed the same price, ocuk seem to be the exception with certain brands having some kind of premium tacked on for no reason.

Greed? I struggle to understand how having higher pricing for a product than a competitor can even begin to be labeled as greed. Breaking this down a little, is it greedy for a supermarket to sell branded goods at a higher price than another supermarket? What about fuel? It varies from one filling station to the next based on a great deal of factors, greed absolutely not being one of them. If a retailer puts prices too high you can be sure they'll be out of business sooner rather than later. OcUK are no exception to this, but it's evident that they have remained successful despite not always being the cheapest retailer. You have to think about what other consumers are looking for. Absolutely, some will be looking for the lowest price possible, but it isn't the top priority for a significant number of people. A high price relative to competition is typically indicative of value added in other ways, such as a superior level of service and support. I will often choose to pay more for a product by buying from a specific retailer, because I recognise the value in the service and support they provide.

Remember that choice of retailer is also a choice of the service you receive on purchase and any later support issues. This might be reflected in some prices.

You may have had a better experience with one retailer than another and want to support that retailer.

I cant believe you actually posted this

What a crap topic - Lets look on the Internet for places that do things cheaper

Goto the other place if that what you want

Personally I quite like the Free Saturday Delivery offered to folks on this

Any issues they are sorted with OCUK quickly unlike some others

Your choice & motivation I suppose

There is more to a retailer than just prices. I'm happy to pay a little more for a better service. Also this forum is advert free is it not?
Having said that, doesn't stop me chinning OCUK for price matching lol. But I wouldn't try that on a brand new card.

OCUK being greedy? I don't think it was their idea to price an ET (Easy Throttle) Reference 1080 so high in the first place... you might want to be speaking to Nvidia 'bout that! ;)

Another well known Internet retailer have the whole range at £679

You pay your money , you take the choice.
Anyone with more sense than money will wait anyway what's the big deal.

I think this is partly a historical legacy in peoples thinking.

OCUK had a well founded reputation for crazy price gouging pre Caseking days.

Greedy? Please!

OcUK *can* be more expensive day to day but usually have a much better marketed series of deals, and the service/quality is great which is why I keep coming back :).
