OcUK being greedy?

Perhaps the Don's should start closing threads like this or if that is too harsh around GPU release police the nondescript threads a bit more ?

Just a suggestion.

Watch how quickly the prices start crawling up after release at other places, the average price is £633.60 for the FE model at most suppliers.

They do the cheaper price at start to get attention and later they crawl up. Also I have to say I don't have any problems at any supplier so far, but if OCUK have the same item and it is slightly more I normally just cough up and rather have OCUK to deal with any future problems if they arise and also I have to say OCUK after-sales service is great, for example I asked for a copy of an invoice a few times many years later and they always send it straight to me, without any hassle at all. That's service I'm willing to pay a little extra for. Also I enjoy their forums and me spending here helps the forums too.

Yes they can be expensive sometimes compared to others but have to say on an expensive product I would rather not take a chance elsewhere sometimes, only thing I have an issue with is hard drives being purchased from OCUK as they seem to wrap drives only in bubble wrap and not a HD brown box and then wrapped in bubble wrap. So I sadly avoid now buying hard drives from OCUK, I hope they take note of this and start buying the HD brown boxes designed to keep them safe and not knocking around in a loose box as my last purchase with drives came in that shocking state.

For peace of mind, I wouldn't buy high value electronic product (include graphic card) from "scam" or "ebugger" for the sake of saving may be a £10-£20 for example. If your graphic card develop a fault later on, trying to seek assistance from them would be pretty hopeless, and their RMA/replacement (if you are fortunately enough to even get to that point instead of being pointed toward the door telling you to contact manufacturer), you will be left out of pocket either by being offer an inferior replacement, or a partial refund that's an absolute joke).

The only thing I would say is that every time I've ordered from OCUK (both my card and the wife's card). It gets declined and I get a call from the bank asking if the transaction is genuine? I never have this with any other retailer. Don't know what that's all about.

Don't agree, whilst they can as its their forum its a good discussion to have, they get the opportunity to come here and at least defend as to why their price is a bit higher. customer service, delivery etc

Let me guess Lloyd's Bank ?

Hi

I've just checked pricing at OcUK, and a lot of the brands GTX 1080 cards are priced at £639.99, with a full of the lesser tier brands being at £619.99.

I have looked at a shop based slightly north of Manchester and they have priced every single GTX 1080 at £619.99 including the cards OcUK have priced at £639.99.

Why are OcUK so greedy? The assumption is shortages and limited stock as ever, but why try to rip off loyal customers?

3.3% more is sooooooo greedy. Do you know OCUK normally get a huge chunk of the UK stock of luanch day cards as well. So while you might be able to pay £20 less at the other place they probaly only have very very few cards. One of the Manchester peeps has horrid CS anyways.

I'm going to use the same line I use for the peeps who don't like the high price of the 1080's in general. "Don't like it, don't buy it" I'm not

They had quite a rough time with people trying to carry out fraudulent transactions through them a couple of years back IIRC so they're probably still flagged from that.

sometimes the prices are a bit higher then other places but to balance it out they have cracking deals on some stuff too so it kind of evens out

just need to shop intelligently and check everywhere to find the best price

but as others have mentioned the service is very good and i don't mind paying an extra £10 for something as i know it will be shipped quickly and if anything goes wrong they have a good RMA service
and they typically have a greater selection than most shops for enthusiast products which command a premium

but if its a good £30-40 more expensive than it should be i just wont buy and look elsewhere

Nobody is forcing you to buy from ocuk. If anyone is greedy it's Nvidia

Agreed.

For me it's about trust, buying on-line can be a nightmare a times, the service OcUK provide has been invaluable. I have returned items with no issues, changed my order after I've paid for it. All these small things makes you want to come back to them. The free next day delivery is second to none ;)
