Guardiola v Mourinho

Will be really interesting. This is possibly the most difficult job Guardiola has taken, but he's undoubtedly an exceptional coach. Mourinho was untouchable until a few years back but it remains to be seen if he keeps his aura.

Regardless, with spending, I'd expect both teams to be in the top 3 next season.

As Champions - which City were a few years ago, they would have been in the 1st pot, so they wouldnt have been in the group of death

So yes it IS a fair comparison

That's not true, city were never in pot 1 because it used to be based on uefa coefficients. I think last season was the first time pot 1 was made up of the league winners.

I would expect Pep to come out on top in the first season due to having a better squad to start with and no Europa League interference. After that, who knows.

I would bet on Mourinho personally. Guardiola is still a big unknown in my books. I think Moyes could have managed the Barca and Bayern sides Guardiola had and still done quite well. Its the same with Blanc at PSG.

Bayern are ridiculously well run from top to bottom. They have 1 half competitive side in their league and every season they plunder them for their best players. Geotze, Lewandowski and Hummels have all contributed to a massive swing in Bayerns favour.

Barcelona are one of the top teams in the world, have a team full of superstars and a player who is on another planet to everyone else playing the game.

Mourinho has won leagues, CL etc with squads that are not the best team at that point so I have more faith in him.

That being said, next year will be a cracker regardless of those two. There will be 6 teams with great managers fighting for 4 CL spots. Out of the 6 I would say that Spurs and Liverpool are the most likely to fall short.

Klopp is a great manager but I don't know whether his brand of football will succeed over a full season. Its too intense to keep up every game.

Is everyone disregarding Lecister ?

They will be fighting for the title too

Just let them dismiss Leicester, they all did it so well last season :D

Yes Leicester are in the Champs League with no experience, just like last season, no experience at the top of premiership, but that didn't make any difference.

With 3 losses all last season, it appears that the other football teams didn't learn from the first time we played them, so what makes you think anything has changed?

Well then I think Everton will win the league next year, after all Leicester did and from a lower starting point than us.

This is why I didn't want them to win it. All we will hear now is but Leicester did it. Freak season happened once every 30 plus years. The chances of that coming around again so soon, feel free to place a bet.

They will do well to finish 6th.

Liverpool, United, City and Chelsea all have new top class managers.

All 4 badly underperformed last season which almost never happens to any any of them let alone all of them.

All of them will spend big in the summer.

Leicester had an insanely low amount of injuries last year and their star players missed hardly any games.

They didn't have CL to worry about.

None of their players have played in CL so who knows how that will effect their league form.

They may lose a couple of their star players and if Kante and mahrez left Leicester would struggle without spending a fortune or uncovering 2 more utter gems.

Those are all good reasons why. Like others have said, if they get anywhere near top 4 then they have done well.

A few Leicester players have already played in Europe, Huth, Fuchs and Albrighton.

Apart from Chelsea, did they really under-perform? United won FA Cup, City CL Semi and League Cup, Liverpool Runners up in two Cups, Arsenal Prem Runners up. Spurs had a great season.

Leicester players are all super-fit, obviously they were doing something right for them not to have lots of injuries and all the players that came in for those on suspensions did a great job.

Although it does help when you don't have a team of prima donnas and everyone fights for each other. ;)

The scouting team are second to none and I'm sure they can find a few more diamonds in the rough.

But apart from higher wages, why would you want to leave Leicester when you are guaranteed CL football and to play in virtually every game.

.

Why because you un-earthed two class players for so far what has been one season? We will see how that team spirit lasts when you drop away from the top 4 and the couple of players worth more than a kit kat desperately want away while they still hold worth :p

You mean when we were bottom for most of the season, until that incredible run of winning 6 out of the last 8 matches which secured us Premier League survival ;)

How do people(more specifically the media) speak/seem to understand how a manager can have so much emphasis on a teams success? Apart from picking the team, which if you are at a top club like or Barca Real or Bayern is not a hard job anyway. What does/can the manager actually do to influence a game?

I just find it so baffling whenever people get into debates about managers, I just don't really get it and think its much more to do with what players you have avaialble.

There is this small thing called "Tactics".

It's a part of literally of everything competitive, ever.

How do athletico do so well every year. How does a new manager improve a team so much. Why do clubs play over 10m / year for a manager if he isn't a massive part of a teams success. A massive part of it is motivation, keeping everyone happy and creating an environment where players thrive. It's harder than ever with the power players have.

Yeah must be hard when you have team with Messi, Iniesta, Suarez, Neymar right? "Guys just go out and attack" job done.

If you listen to the people that have played under Guardiola for example, you'll find that they have very strict instructions.

Yes but these are top players themselves. Sorry guys i just refuse to accept all the credit managers get. When it's such a grey areat that can't really be measured yet the media and pundits seem to think otherwise. I just do not get it.
