What have you done to your car today?

dropped the car off at a Paintshop.

Having the rear end repainted so that the rear bumper matches the body.

Also asked them to fit some Eibach Pro lowering springs.

expensive day will be the collection day :O

Not sure I'd trust a reputable mechanic with doing paintwork, or a reputable bodyshop with suspension work. Jack of all trades.....

I honestly believe that only mazda would be able to match it properly first time, it was probably repainted at one of those "bodyshops" before hence the massive difference!

I was quoted £120 to do it to my Polo and £150 to do it to my Corolla. Where on earth did you go? :p

just a local place! guy was taking the mickie, told him where to go but he still tried to argue that with his specialist equipment it'll take him 1.5 hours PER CORNER on the rear alone.

A trio of things, went to Protyre to get a nail removed from the driver side front tyre. Turned out even though it looked like a big nail, it was actually not too long and only penetrated the tread due to the tyres being still new.

Then had a free alignment check done as it's been a while since it's been checked by these guys. Last time was March 2015 on their machine. Needed some adjustment all round.

Then I more efficiently organised my car paperwork:

Quite a substantial ring binder that.

You're having the bodyshop work on the suspension?

Oh
they are a garage and used car sales too.

I have seen the work they do and it looks good.

rear bumper new paint and going to blend in to the body work to match.

quoted £80 to fit springs.
I bought them off amazon for £40 flash deal so bargain!

Helped my mate do his rear pads on his Astra J. Went well enough and all is good.

Swapped out the intermediate shaft bearing on my Astra thinking it would cure the rumbling noise.

Sadly not. Thinking that it's pointing towards diff bearings.

I really want to just take it up a back road and torch the ****ing thing.

Can a drive shaft make a droning noise? It's not a knock or rattle just a drone that gets louder with road speed.

It's probably time to stop guessing tbh and either locate the definite noise source yourself or msybe take it somewhere.

The likes of automek are trustworthy and know their stuff so would likely find whatever's causing it quite quickly. They will charge you to look at it (if they don't then do the work) but will only be circa £40 or so

Ah just noticed your the guy with the astra sri aint you? Do they also have the M32 box that the VXR has?

Mine started droning in 5th and 6th and you can see the gear stick move back and forward when accelerating. This eventually goes across all gears.

Anything similar? I hope not.

Doing what a backstreet garage would do but on my drive!

Only other thing I can try is to put the bearing I took off on the NSF to rule that out for sure.

I was going to pop into alpine transmission in Blantyre but maybe a garage would be a better option.

I do have the M32 box which was rebuilt 40k miles ago. It did have whine and play in the stick but not after the rebuild. I'd say there is still a slight whine off the box but this noise is a lot harsher and louder in or out of gear.

It doesn't really change under power which you'd expect of the gearbox?

Second thing I did after getting the heat shield reattached was swap the tyres round which made no difference.
