The Battlefield 4 Thread 2015

I play engineer class most of the time so I only have the SV version of the Scar-H. It means it only has semi auto mode but it has more range and hits very hard when it does. I'm still trying to find a good automatic weapon for the engineer. I use the JS2 but it is only good at very close range and does not have enough punch. I used to use the Mtar in BF3. Is there anything as good as that in BF4 for the engineer?

Engineer has mtar under carbines - its pretty good but needs some skill to use it beyond close range spray and pray (unlike some of the others it is effective at range but it isn't forgiving to use at range).

As engineer I usually alternate between CBJ-MS - very stable, reasonably bullet velocity so ok for range and sizeable magazine but so so rate of fire, MP7 which drops stuff close up like very little else but suffers at range, mtar which is fairly good all around with a great rate of fire or occasionally M39 EMR ran sniper style.

Another other option is like the competitive players who run ACW-R due to its all around capabilities and fast reload.

Its pretty close - the higher rate of fire makes up some of the lesser damage of the MP7 at range despite the MP7 reaching further before damage drop off - 8% higher rate of fire versus 23% more damage at range though - so its something like 13.5 effective v 15 point something at like 45m.

Most of my engagements aren't at a great distance though, and most of the time longer range in engagements you can just find cover. It's only the really open maps where IMO the ACW-R is a better choice, and on those maps, a DMR might be an even better choice. And like I said, the damage is only relevant if all your shots hit, which is more likely with the laser pointer that is the mp7. ;)

I do like the ACW-R though. From the carbines, I also like the ACE-52, but people with different play styles will prefer different weapons.

I guess what I like about the PDWs is the slight improvement in general maneuverability you get (which is hinted at by the hipfire accuracy). You'll have noticed that an assault player with an assault rife is more maneuverable than support* with an LMG, well it seems to me that an engineer with a PDW is even more mobile.

* Take a look at who wins the race at the beginning of a round of Lockers for instance. The assault player is almost always ahead of the support player.

best carbine for me is the SG553 the ACW-R was my go to gun until i started to use the SG553 but im starting to like the A-91 in close range situations never really bothered with the mp7 might give it a try tonight

I got pretty good with the Mtar in BF3. I haven't yet unlocked in BF4. I will sort that out soon. I have the ACW-R and that was my favourite weapon in BF3. I think it is a lot weaker in BF4 though. The Scar-H is like the ACW-R was in BF3. Thanks for your help. I've been pretty useless in close combat. Hopefully this will sort the issues out.

The ACWR was the only weapon we used in the ESL competitive rounds (if on a vehicle map) :p

And yes, what hazard is true in that last post of his, you are the most mobile with PDWs in every way, ADS'ing is quicker too.

I am quite liking the PDW-R atm, didn't realise I had the MPX unlocked so will try it out tonight, generally I prefer carbines though, ak5c probably my favourite overall, it used to be the ace 52 until it got nerfed.... IIRC the ace 21 is still pretty good though.

Just had a few games with the ACW-R - never used it before - its not terrible for putting down volume of fire at medium range the only people outgunning me were the AEK spammers and half of them are using a low FOV aimbot anyhow.
