Is GTX 980Ti better choice compared to GTX 1070?

This should answer a few questions, compares overclocked 1070 vs overclocked 980 Ti - 980 Ti comes out on top.

Did you forget to post the first video that comes up in Google when you do a search? For reference it contradicts your video and puts an oc 1070 ahead of an oc980ti. Now I'm not saying for one moment that's a win for the 1070, it just demonstrates what a lottery overclocking is.

I have no doubt if you whip a 980ti hard enough it can draw level with a 1070 at least until it craps out or the electricity company disconnect you. Give it six months and it won't draw level in tests and you can quote me on that.

Not everyone oc's and of course it's a silicon lottery out there. Stock vs stock is the only fair test.

1070 overclocks itself at stock so that would be a unfair comparison.

OC to OC its more fair.

Every benchmark out thus far puts the 1070 ahead of the 980ti. My 750ti plays bf4 just fine so I suspect you have a faulty card;)

Not every benchmark, it trades blows most of the time.

This is my EVGA GTX 1070 FE max overclock Firestrike score: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12536124

Ans this was my Palit Super Jetstream 980Ti max OC Firestrike score: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12316168

That is between 300-400 graphics score difference, thats hardly a difference in terms of FPS.

Truth is these cards are so close in performance it may be best to determine a purchase on price. For example I just picked up a second 980Ti for SLI, a brand new unopened MSI 980Ti for £300. The 1070 will draw you 100watts less from the wall but if you are spending £400 on a card then you shouldn't be worrying about a few £'s extra on electric. When the 1070 does come down in price then it is be a much better buy than a 980Ti.

I understand mature drivers will play a part but that wouldn't be much. Interesting to see if the 1080 can beat the 980Ti KP on 3dMarks hall of fame.

I agree if you can get a 980Ti for around £300 they are a good deal. 2 weeks ago I picked up my 980Ti for £310, 6 months old, but it died on Monday!

With the extra features pascal brings and future driver improvements the 1070 is a better card I think, but it depends how much more you're willing to pay for it. Second hand vs new is another debate, as I found out you can be badly bitten!

I think you should get the 1070. The performance might improve as new drivers are released. The 980Ti has had a long time for the drivers to be optimised for it.

And this is why I keep telling myself to say no to the SLI 980 Tis I've been offered for £600 and just go with my single 1080 :)

A brand new 980ti for £300 is indeed a good deal but most second hand ones are £350 on a certain auction site. Thus to answer the thread title a brand new 1070 for £50 more with warranty, runs cooler, less power draw and whichever way you look at it is faster than a Titan let alone a ti, is very much the better option.

Yeah £300 for brand new is fine, I wouldnt pay over £300 for second hand.

The auction sites sell between £300-£350, unless you find it away from there with no fees with sub £300.
