Asus Maximus VIII Extreme or Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7?

I also reckon my 5960X provides better minimums than my 6700K especially when that hotel collapses on BF4 as previously mentioned.

I also reckon I can get the OP to overclock a 5820K or even 5960X if he has big bucks way past 4GHz, I mean Ive done it before - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18670276 :D

Fair enough, but there are loads of situations the 6700k outperforms the 5820k/5960x. Also, the minimums in an isolated incident shouldn't determine your choice, unless you really like running that sequence of BF4

It is quite hard to deny the power of the X99 platform, but then again it is hard to recommend it given the circumstance

Total War games prefer cores over raw speed.

Thats another example.

And when you say "outperforms" we are still talking about huge frame rates VS slightly larger frame rates.

Yes, but most people dropping this much money would most likely want the slightly larger frame rates, not an e-peen enlargement

No, if they are dropping this much money the tend to go for X99 as its the best.

But this isn't based on any factual information, this is usually because people have the mentality that because it is an enthusiast platform, and it costs more (usually) then it will offer better gaming performance.

In reality the numbers point towards Z170/6700k, I see both sides but just because you have lots of money to spend, doesn't mean you can't be systematic about it.

Its based on my actual usage i just know that in some situations my X99 is a smoother gaming setup than my 6700K and any max frame rate numbers the 6700K has over X99 is not noticeable as the X99 is already dishing out large values.

I guess you have more experience than me on this comparison, but are the dips in FPS on the 6700k even noticeable?

On BF4 Hainan when someone collapses the sides of the hotel, there is a noticeable stutter on the 6700K.

See i had thought i'd replace my x58 Xeon in a few months with a 6700k now you have thrown a spanner in the works and i'm back to looking at x99 builds again :p

Good information stulid and thanks, means i'm likely to hang out for 6 or more cores again
