OcUK Theme - have your say!

Macca pacca avatars.

Also the image resizer should have options for higher widths than 1024, we don't all live in 2001 :D

it's probably been covered but I would like an option to upvote and downvote on posts/threads

would be good to see how many would share similar opinions on posts :)

Why? Lots of things evolve so apart from Cosimo, who would benefit from seeing pictures of planes which were crap and then became less crap?

It was just an idea. What is your suggestion, the seven dwarfs perhaps so you could be grumpy? ;)

Some auto filters would be nice. Filter 'should have' to 'should have', 'could have' to 'could have', use the correct context of your and you're, as well as LVG to pillock.

Introduce private messaging but keep the trust system the way it is, maybe set it so members can't message admins/dons too often.

Also beneficial not to keep going into your email to read messages.

1024 works fine for most things here though, as allows for space at the side of the post for the Member name and details, whilst still fitting nicely on a 1280 or 1366 wide screen (which is still approx ~37% of the market according to Steam's stats) .

Bigger images aren't necessarily any better when a lot are taken with Phones that have poor lenses and tiny sensors.

I do agree we should move on slightly though, and maybe drop the "56K warning" on some of the image threads :)

I like it as it is. Please don't go down the rep/like route. I have seen it on other forums where people make comments and add "don't forget to like or add rep" on at the end. We don't need that nonsense on here.

Leave it as is, doesn't need modernising or pointless rep system.

It just works, leave well alone.

Well the fact is it DOES need modernising. We're want to keep the look and feel as much as possible as it is, but there is an opportunity to tweak it. The generally look and feel won't really change as it is part of the identity of the forum, but surely additional features and a better forum experience is a good thing no?

I would like a mobile theme - I assume most view the forums at work, but you also have a fair few who are sad enough to visit it on their mobiles!

Also, as was suggested earlier, having a switchable theme between the blue and the black would be good.

A simple @so&so feature to notify members of questions etc would be good and maybe a notification system for thread updates rather than emails?

Also, the like/upvote/rep is a good idea providing people don't take it too seriously (which they probably will so dont do it)

The naming system / signatures and avatars dont really affect me, do what you will with those!

But keep the forum as it is, one of the best things about it is to find generally good information on practically any topic!

Great post thanks - and yes don't worry we don't want to overhaul how it looks or feels, but if possible add features and/or make it a little better without overtly changing anything too obvious.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

It is broke in places, and needs fixing. :)

I also find that a particularly antediluvian attitude - but that's probably because I've worked in change management a lot! :p

Nah he's right, rep systems on forums are absolute crapp. Brigading just occurs when people don't like someone's opinion.

Agree. I actually really like this forum and it's simplicity. It's clear, clean and easy to browse (This is why OCUK to this day is still one of the main forums I instantly type in to read when I get up).

That won't change - that's part of the forum identity, the fact it is clean and clear and easy to browse. But we've said this already many... many times.

Couldn't agree more. Dont get me wrong if security is lacking or the mods/admins need/want some extra features then an update is needed. Just hope the base template doesn't change too much.

Exactly this, we want to keep the look and feel, but just give a bit of a spruce up. But before we do this (it won't be any time soon!) we wanted to give the membership the chance to have their say.

We could have course just do it without any consultation - but as much as the moderating team gets a hard time, we actually do value what our members say!

Completely agree, may as well not have any avatars at all

I personally would love to have no avatars. WE have so many to choose from here as your progress and so many ranks. I personally would be quite happy to do away with ranks and avatars altogether since most people's identity are based around their sigs.

It's a good point. What does the ranking system actually achieve? What is the purpose?

Regarding the 'rep' system, it would be good if you could upvote or downvote a specific reply.

I think not keeping track of these up/down votes is the key. Maybe only enable them in specific forums, like the Hardware/Software forum. Can be handy if someone gives great advice and equally if someone gives terrible advice!

I'd drop signatures completely and just allow custom avatars (it would look far far far neater), effectively moving people's sigs to the avatar slot. Obviously they'd have to be governed to maximum size as per signatures.

Do gangsters really set a good precedence for an online shop? :p They don't even have a relevance to the company and definitely cause issues with the fact they're mostly all male.

Have the owners asked for a change?

No need to fix what isn't broke or make change for change's sake. Maybe a teak or two in the background but no more.

Love the simplicity of the place, it's part of the character, the colour scheme is fine as are the avatars, no other bells and whistles are required.

I've never been against the PM system, but for the fear of people sending abuse to one another - unless we grant moderators the ability to read PMs, but then that negates the private nature of it.

Could always invite a moderator to the PM, if someone is sending abuse.

Edit. Could always let us change the thread title is the MM.

A simple 'like' system to reduce +1 type posts. Not rep points or anything that. Not keen on 'downvotes'.
More neutral colour theme option - in fact, theme options in general.
Mobile friendly option. Not tapatalk or anything that requires an app. Just a good, usable mobile interface
Image resizer - (is any way to link with image hosting providers for automated uploading when posting?)
Notifications, as mentioned.

Not bothered about avatars or signatures personally, used to have both disabled, now just avatars disabled.
