Thunderstorms : Weather UK - 2016

The grid here seems to be made of cheese. the the little storm we had last night knocked the power out for about 30 minutes, was cooking at the time as well:mad: Luckily, the chicken we had in the oven had a thermometer stuffed up its jacksy and it was almost cooked anyway - managed to get it the rest of the way on the residual heat inside the over alone.

Had really loud thunder here in Newhaven on the south coast for 2 hours now, just doesn't want to shift! Not noticed any lightning though.

went to a job today were the power to the whole house was taken out with a hit of lightning,

the girl was nearly crying, as its just been refurb'd, supplier fuse had gone, and there was damage to the consumer unit,

Full EICR recommended, and advised that its not going to be pretty as I suspect a lot of the wiring is fried,

It will be muggy across southeast England this evening and overnight, with thunderstorms and some torrential downpours. Outbreaks of rain elsewhere will ease leaving the early hours dry for most.

Although some areas will miss them, potentially intense thundery downpours seem likely to affect parts of the warning area from Wednesday late afternoon or early evening onwards into the early hours of Thursday or Thursday morning. Further scattered thunderstorms are then likely to break out from Thursday afternoon onwards into Thursday night.

Please be aware of possible disruption to travel and localised flooding as well as frequent lightning.

+++Severe thunderstorm threat today in SE UK, N France and BeNeLux+++
A significant severe weather setup is shaping up for SE UK, N France and BeNeLux this afternoon, with potential for severe thunderstorms with large to very large hail, severe winds and heavy rainfall. High instability will build up over the region, with SBCAPE values in the 2000-3000 J/kg range, locally even exceeding 4000 J/kg. A moderately strong mid level jet overspreads the region with 40-50 kt southwesterly winds at 500 mbar level. Southerly to southeasterly surface winds provide ample shear and helicity, as DLS reaches 30-50 kt and SREH3 generally 100-200 m2/s2; the environment is highly supportive for organized thunderstorms, including supercells. Expect storm initiation in late afternoon across N-NW France, with storms moving NE into NE France, BeNeLux and SE UK. Main threats with these storms are large to very large hail, severe winds and heavy rainfall. Some models indicate very strong low level shear and 0-1km helicity (>20 kt LLS, >150-250 m2/s2 SREH1!!) over Brittany, Normandy and Pas-de-Calais - should these models verify, there will be a very significant threat of tornadoes in this zone! We will be monitoring this situation and providing updates.

It's quite sweaty up here. The thermostat reads 22.0c and I have most windows letting a little cool air through.

Take this heat away. :( :p
