Deffo 970/390 perf from that.

Since when can you get a 390X for £200? The only reason the 390X or 980 are less than £300 right now is because of the launch of the new cards such as as the 1070 or 480. The cards have been reduced to clear stock. Only 4-6 weeks ago the 390 non-X was above £240 let alone the 980/390X.
If the 480 can match a 390X now for £180-£230 then it is a good deal for anyone who wants to step up from a 380 or 960. For all intents and purposes the 480 is targeted at that market segment, not anyone who already has a 390X/980 for which they paid £300+ for 2 months ago. However, many will even sidegrade to a 480 just for the new tech and lower power consumption.
This..
Why is it you all assume people are upgrading from 290 or 970? They is a bigger market gab out there, where this 480 at an affordable price will be an excellent upgrade.
Will it be a massive upgrade for me over a 290 no, will I still buy it if it's a 390x or 980 speed Yess because I just want something new.
So what is 980 are now selling for £250 who cares? This is a thread about 480. It's great that this GPU alone is moving prices down, it's what we all want, or we get people paying stupid prices for GPUs. We shouldn't be paying more than £450-500 on high end GPU Fact!

No point arguing. Seems some people were expecting the 480 to match the 1070 no matter how insane that was te believe.
so bottom line is its good for people who want a new shiny?![]()
The 480 is actually a 960/380 replacement so it's a bit rich expecting it to match a FuryX or similar. It would be like expecting a 1060 to match or come close to a 980ti. If you had any sense you would know that a 1060 will probably match a 980 and will most likely be around £200 just like the 480![]()
Why anyone with a TitanX or 980ti needs to spend loads of time here is beyond me.
To me it looks like he's spent all the money he had on a GPU and can no longer afford to go out, therefore, spends his life in front of a monitor whining on forums as a result. It all makes sense now.

One thing that will be *very* interesting, is if nVidia can beat AMD's power consumption with their 1060.
For the last couple gens, nV have had better perf/watt. Now AMD are pushing this angle almost exclusively.
They (AMD) could have made a 190W 480 with more perf (the 380 is 190W). Instead they chose to use the efficiency gains to reduce power to <150W.
If the 1060 matches their perf/watt, but has better perf (>980) at similar perf/£, what will the 480 compete on then?
AMD is marketing this as a revolutionary card. A "disruptive" card. I wouldn't be giving them such a hard time if they'd just come out and said "we're doing a low power 390X for a bit less money."
When the 1060 comes out and at least matches the 480 in all metrics, AMD are going to look - again - like clowns.
Let's just wait and see what happens when games are benched. I know Digital Foundry have been handed a 480, be interested in what they show.
PC gaming is moving forward, DX12 and releasing GpuOpen, ps4, xbox using same GCN the 480 in games could be very good. You buying a GPU that will have all this latest technology for now and for the future.
Anything from Nvidia before 10 series is dead in the water for going forward, weak in VR and don't support DX12 has well.
So what are your choices? Buy a 980 now, that will be EOL or buy a 480 that will only get better.

. Already gone 1080 sli. Just let down by AMD. no mate when you work hard you retire at 27 and chill

I would like to buy a 480 but I'm extremely pessimistic about its chances.
I just find the joyful optimism surrounding the 480 a little comical. A little pessmism is needed to balance it out, otherwise you'll be crowning flopper as your new king and sacrificing goats to AMD.
So you're here to be negative endlessly because people want to be positive about it? You must be a blast at parties.
