Deffo 970/390 perf from that.

Since when can you get a 390X for £200? The only reason the 390X or 980 are less than £300 right now is because of the launch of the new cards such as as the 1070 or 480. The cards have been reduced to clear stock. Only 4-6 weeks ago the 390 non-X was above £240 let alone the 980/390X.

If the 480 can match a 390X now for £180-£230 then it is a good deal for anyone who wants to step up from a 380 or 960. For all intents and purposes the 480 is targeted at that market segment, not anyone who already has a 390X/980 for which they paid £300+ for 2 months ago. However, many will even sidegrade to a 480 just for the new tech and lower power consumption.

This..

Why is it you all assume people are upgrading from 290 or 970? They is a bigger market gap out there, where this 480 at an affordable price will be an excellent upgrade.

Will it be a massive upgrade for me over a 290 no, will I still buy it if it's a 390x or 980 speed Yess because I just want something new.

So what if 980 are now selling for £250 who cares? This is a thread about 480. It's great that this GPU alone is moving prices down, it's what we all want, or we get people paying stupid prices for GPUs. We shouldn't be paying more than £450-500 on high end GPU Fact!

so bottom line is its good for people who want a new shiny? :p

No point arguing. Seems some people were expecting the 480 to match the 1070 no matter how insane that was te believe.

It's actually the Nvidia hardcore who appear to be spamming the thread in an attempt to create fake expectations or to dampen the 480 anticipation.

Why anyone with a TitanX or 980ti needs to spend loads of time here is beyond me. If people are expecting 1070/980ti level performance then maybe they should wait for the AMD upgrade to the 390 which will be the VEGA 10.

The 480 is actually a 960/380 replacement so it's a bit rich expecting it to match a FuryX or similar. It would be like expecting a 1060 to match or come close to a 980ti. If you had any sense you would know that a 1060 will probably match a 980 and will most likely be around £200 just like the 480 ;)

One thing that will be *very* interesting, is if nVidia can beat AMD's power consumption with their 1060.

For the last couple gens, nV have had better perf/watt. Now AMD are pushing this angle almost exclusively.

They (AMD) could have made a 190W 480 with more perf (the 380 is 190W). Instead they chose to use the efficiency gains to reduce power to <150W.

If the 1060 matches their perf/watt, but has better perf (>980) at similar perf/£, what will the 480 compete on then?

AMD is marketing this as a revolutionary card. A "disruptive" card. I wouldn't be giving them such a hard time if they'd just come out and said "we're doing a low power 390X for a bit less money."

When the 1060 comes out and at least matches the 480 in all metrics, AMD are going to look - again - like clowns.

To me it looks like he's spent all the money he had on a GPU and can no longer afford to go out, therefore, spends his life in front of a monitor whining on forums as a result. It all makes sense now.

We get it you think the 480 is poop. If its not at the release it will be when the 1060 comes. If not then it will be poop later when next gen Nv cards come. Its poop anyway. We all get your opinion. Would you please stop spamming it page after page.

Let's just wait and see what happens when games are benched. I know Digital Foundry have been handed a 480, be interested in what they show.

PC gaming is moving forward, DX12 and releasing GpuOpen, ps4, xbox using same GCN the 480 in games could be very good. You buying a GPU that will have all this latest technology for now and for the future.
Anything from Nvidia before 10 series is dead in the water for going forward, weak in VR and don't support DX12 has well.
So what are your choices? Buy a 980 now, that will be EOL or buy a 480 that will only get better.

People are also forgetting these are the reference 480's, the aftermarket clocked and cooled ones could potentially be a totally different kettle of fish, or they could also be bad, nobody knows just yet...

One thing that seems to ring true with this shrink though is even Nvidia are struggling to get decent overclocks on their cards once out of the box, ive read numerous people saying they are struggling to achieve overclocks like they could on Maxwell..

The same may ring true for AMD, nobody knows yet.

It could beat it, but it's also likely that it will cost more.
Let's have a look at current nvidia pricing:

1080 - £600
1070 - £400

Now do you really believe that a 1060 will come at 200 considering that in SLI it will probably beat 1080? Nope, it's going to cost £260-300 at least. If anything is going to compete price wise with 480 it will be a 1050 at £150-200 (no, it's not going to cost £100, look at what nvidia did with their prices and how much 1080 and 1070 costed compared to 980 and 970).

Sure, the 970s and 980s are cheap now, but they're end of line and I doubt nvidia will drop prices on their current products just because there is 2-4weeks left of stock of their old gen which will be comparable price wise for same/better performance.

I love the enthusiasm but lets wait for the reviews.:)

They may surprise you.

If the chip runs cool and quiet, then a real plus for the 480 in my books. 390/X performance running cooler and quieter and for $200 is a good selling point to me. 3 days time will be the tell and hopefully it won't be a dog but more a wolf in sheep's clothing.

That's a lot of "if" about the 1060 in there yet you still manage to use a card that you know absolutely nothing about, to slate a card that we know small amounts(officially) about.

I think it's pretty obvious to everyone here what camp you're in and you dont need to keep finding new ways to say the same thing. Can you please give it a rest?

haters gonna hate :D. Already gone 1080 sli. Just let down by AMD. no mate when you work hard you retire at 27 and chill

I'm not in a camp. I dislike both "camps" for different reasons :p And fanboy is a synonym for muppet in my book :p

I would like to buy a 480 but I'm extremely pessimistic about its chances.

I just find the joyful optimism surrounding the 480 a little comical. A little pessmism is needed to balance it out, otherwise you'll be crowning flopper as your new king and sacrificing goats to AMD.

So you're here to be negative endlessly because people want to be positive about it? You must be a blast at parties.
