Chris Bryant is a snake. He'll never be the first to put his neck on the line. Wait's until it looks like he's backing the wrong horse, then jumps ship like a rat on fire.
But this is the whole problem with the Labour party. He's preaching to the converted. He needs to get new voters, not just please the existing members.
He has the support of the membership, unless a better candidate can be found. That was my point. Quite simply, if the PLP want him gone then they need to find someone else that members will get behind.
I don't have anyone in mind. TBH I'm not sure there is such a candidate. But if that person can be found, Corbyn might go.
Labour voters backed Remain 2:1 and an even higher margin among Corbyn supporting members. The idea that he could have gained support by going against what most Labour voters, and even more Labour members, wanted is utterly bizarre.
I was thinking about all the former labour voters that voted leave because they feel disenfranchised with politics in general. Corbyn could have supported leave, then when they won, he would be seen as a victor and a statesman by the party, and he would have won over all the voters that have been lost in the last couple of decades. He would also have been respected as a man of principle, as he could have pointed to his long record of EU opposition.
