480 or another 390x?

Considered that. Or a 1070. But I'm just not willing to give Nvidia my money just now. I don't like the way they behave so will be voting with my wallet in that case.
Does that mean I might get less frames for my money. Maybe. But it's important to me to show AMD support just now. As I belive we need to shake Nvidia up a bit. Does that make me a fan boy? Maybe. But that's the way I feel.

Fair enough and if you are happy to support the company that supports you, coolio. I personally buy what suits me best for gaming but I don't let politics get in the way of my fun :)

Going off the leaked 480 review, it would be a downgrade from a 390X, and id stay away from Xfire, as it has way too many problems, id get a faster single card.

Already been said they used older drivers and not new drivers for Polaris; and their charts are all over the place... tells us that even without proper drivers 480 keeping pace with OC 970; which is faster than ref 980 ;)

That's strange, I hope the reviews to be released the following hours use the proper final drivers or say otherwise, gimped reviews on launch is the last thing you need when releasing the card with a 1060 around the corner.

Imo the 480 will NOT perform better than the 390x. The only advantage I can see for it would be lower power draw & hdmi 2.0 Do those things matter to you? If so, 480. If not, 390x.

Power draw not of concern to me at all. I will however wait for the reviews of the 480 to decide.

If the 480 matches 390x performance tomorrow on early drivers it's likely to pull ahead within the coming years with the latest GCN technology which will naturally be prioritised for optimisation. Not a good time to get older inefficient cards imo when the prices are similar.

I'm actually only planning on keeping this card for a year at the most anyway. I want to game in 4k or 1440p superwide soon so was I am saving for Vega. I guess resale of the 480 will be better than the 390x in 12 months or so.

Put a bit to it and get a 980Ti?

this

But reading re AMD good on you glad someone does yes they need a shake ...

Wait for the 480 see how it is if not get which ever AMD card will give you the best fps i suppose

So my broken card has been refunded by OCUK. I'm in the market for a new one.

Question is... Do I get another 390x or go for the 480? I'm not a fan of blower cards so would want to wait for partner cards. But equally, I'm not a fan of waiting... :D

I upgraded from an MSI 390X to a 1070 FE. Although it's a blower design, it's far quieter and pumps out significantly less heat than my 390X did. (300W+ TDP on the MSI 390X vs the 150W on the 1070). Also the 1070 is significantly faster, so win win, assuming you can afford £399.

Head says yes. Heart says no. Going to keep buying AMD for a bit.
