Blasts and gunfire at Istanbul airport...

Visited Istanbul for New Years 18 months ago and really liked the place - I've got nothing but nice things to say for the locals and didn't get any bad vibes whilst there.

Already the loss of life in this attack is large, 20 or so at the moment with 60 injured :/

Why are Westerners still heading to Muslim countries for holidays? I went to Tunisia years back, superb location, but wouldn't touch the place with a barge pole now, spend the tourist dollar in Europe instead, or preferably the UK.

Wow, talk about Little Britain. I'm going to France in a month. Should I be worried about the terrorist attacks there? Belgium bike trip in August too. I don't have a chance do I?

France and Belgium are just like Egypt and Turkey. Yup, no difference at all.

Can't understand why people holiday there. Or places like Egypt. Especially with families.

Oh yea it's cheap... Not as cheap as some peoples family lives it seems...

I went to egypt, resort was miles down a single road, woth multiple armed checkpoints.

Its own grounds and well secured.

I didnt think there was much risk int he reaort the cities themselves though are absolute crap holes definitly not worth the excursions go for thenreef/private island ones instead

Most Turks are normal decent hard working people just like most of us, not only are they being killed but their economy will suffer massively as tourists stay away :(

I've been to Turkey (Oludeniz, Fethiye) 8 times and going again in September. The flying is the one thing that bothers us with all that's happening but always felt perfectly safe while we're there.

Turkey is pretty much divided between the secular urban Turks and the Muslim rural Turks. The former could pass for Greeks, the latter... well those not so much.

Police sources via Turkish media agencies in Turkey are claiming it was an ISIS attack :(. Not sure of the validity as it was a Daily fail headline.

It seems that there's an attack like this every other week now, normally ISIS related, whilst I have very high confidence in our security services I can't help but wonder how long it is until we have one here..

Properly disgusting any remote mentions of brexit or the EU in this. Horrific scenes. Sad, sad times.

I would be shocked and appalled if this was the term deleted again.

You do realise Turkey is like majority muslim right? Most attacks in Turkey have been attributed to PKK or their offshoots, and their goal is an independent Kurdistan. Or do harm to Turkey's tourism industry, which has certainly been working.
