Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

My god - what a disappointment...

You know what's even worse, doesn't seem to have been any improvements in how they perform in DX12 games. So while AMD had the advantage before, Nvidia have bridged the gap slightly with the 10XX cards and AMD have not responded but continuing to widen the performance margin.

What is in the price range for £175? Also, that reviewer may or may not have had press drivers, maybe why he could break NDA.

Sorry if someone won't say what drivers they used and also broke NDA - I find it very suspect - I don't care if he's supposedly well respected - either list what you use or deal with your results not being trusted....period. I've done reviews in the past...either you make it bullet proof against these questions.....or answer then honestly not avoid them......He's avoiding answering....

Wow you're still trying to stay afloat with the sinking ship. Good on ya man. Stick to your guns even if they are misguided:)

That XFX looks good. The only people who need 8gb are the ones who are going above 1080p, even 1440p may be fine.

I'm thinking of going for the 4gb to upgrade from my 280 (not x), I intend to stick with 1080p until into next year then jump to 4k. So cheapest I can get away with now for 1080p will be money saved for the big upgrade later next year.

guys chill the **** down he didnt use press drivers but old ones

he never got the press drivers because he never signed any nda thats why he could release the video now

So there's still hope? I really doubt they would price it so aggressively if it performed any better. The scores in firestrike as on par with the ones we saw running the press driver. Don't expect any miracles.

lol the amount of false disappointment in this thread is hilarious... the amount of doom and gloom from one pre NDA benchmark which was run on incorrect drivers and deliberately made to show the card in a poor light (wait for onrushing nvidia fans disputing this claim) against an Overclocked competing card is also hilarious...

Lets see the benchmarks when the overclocked aftermarket cards come along...

I stopped using graphs like these for understanding GPU performance. They don't tell the full picture.
Digital Foundry results will be live soon much better, then looking at x amount

I stopped using graphs the first time someone posted this on these forums to prove their argument: ;) :D

I think we need more reviews. Everyone on these forums should be able to reel off six factors that can throw benchmarks off without even pausing to think. Let's wait for the Anandtech's et al. to start showing their results.

It totally matched the 580 in anything remotely new at the time. And was LESS than half the size of the 580 die.

Not going to get in an argument with you, but, techpowerup had it 10% slower on average, Guru3d said it was between 570 and 580 performance. Anandtech had it 10-15% slower. Sure their were some games where it was as fast or even faster, but overall it was slower.

Just curious are you going to use the same caveat about the performance of the 480? If it matches or beats the 390x in some (newer) games, are you going to say the 480 is as fast as the 390x? Or is it going to be what it's like overall?

And yes I agree with you, if it doesn't reach 970 performance levels then AMD will have taken a big step back. I just hope its pushing 390x levels as Gibbo's posts seem to suggest.
