What have you done to your car today?

Saab 9-5's are known for their sludging issues but mine being a car with the face lifted breather system should be okay in theory but wanted piece of mind. Car has 120k on the clock and apart from a few bits of rubber sealant in the oil pick up the sump was lovely and clean. Took me half a day to do plus £30 in materials (O rings, replacement breather pipe and sealant).

You did the right thing. There were 2 causes of sludging and the PCV system was only one of them. So many people will tell you not to do a sump drop if you have an 04> car but if its ever had semi synthetic oil in it, that will cause sludge too due to how hot the sump gets. Well worth doing as an insurance policy :) Yours looks nice and clean, its probably worth replacing the oil pressure switch if you havent already - Neos include one in their sump drop kit as they're so prone to leaking.

In Saab 9-5 news from this end, had a small breakdown last night :( Pulled up to a junction and the revs were bouncing up and down and it died.. wouldnt start again. My heart absolutely sank. Opened the bonnet and found one of the PCV hoses had popped off - one of the valves had been replaced with the work that had been done and the older hose on one side had popped off. Reconnected it and it fired up fine, zip tied it when I got home.

Took it out for a blast across dartmoor for lunch and I'm still absolutely staggered with how much nicer this thing is to drive now, it's so much more composed and controlled through the corners and the acelleration is absolutely relentless. Loving this thing :)

Yeah did the oil pressure switch as well as the turbo oil feed pipe that goes to the sump. Engine has a nice bill of health now which is good as it will be doing 2.5k miles in the summer across Europe :)

Just had the windscreen replaced

Why?

I want to get mine replaced, simply because there are wiper scratches and some stone chips in my view. All of which really annoy me!

But i don't fancy smashing it... then to find out they need to order the glass from mazda or something and have no car for ages!

You can't deliberately smash your screen and expect a new one

After two stone strikes within 5 minutes of each other, the first left a large chip the second hit a few cm to the side of it resulting in a crack between the two which then grew i was left with:

heh, more common than you think.
I know a few people with older cars that simply put a hammer through their screens, purely to get a new screen for £75 to boost resale value.

"look, brand new windscreen"
is better than
"Look, chipped and scratched windscreen"

Wow, some people are really scummy.

Could I smack them over the back of the head with the hammer so they can claim whiplash too?

Get the chips filled in and the screen polished if it bothers you so much. Replacement screens can be softer if you don't get OEM and loads of people have issues with screen fitters.

I know on some cars (such as mine), it's almost impossible that the auto wipers will ever work again if the screen is replaced - so I'm hoping mine never cracks! My Octavia had a replaced screen at some point at the auto lights and wipers were never quite right

You really are not selling these Saabs very well

Surely yours isn't on its original screen anyway so it must work some of the time...

Fitted my number plates after finally getting the DVLA to swap them round (fourth time lucky!). Also booked it in for a full ICE install, which sounds chavvy, but for what it's costing me believe me it isn't. Can't wait

Not trying to sell them, and it happens on a lot of cars like I explained ..

Mines works flawlessly and I'm pretty sure it's the original screen. I'm just aware that it can be an issue

Can't say I've ever fitted an 9-3 or 9-5 windscreen and not had the Auto Wipers work properly afterwards, are you sure most of these people know how to actually use them. You'd be suprised at how many people I come across that don't

In fact in the 3 years I've been doing it, I've only ever had one that hasn't worked correctly and that was because I physically damaged the sensor. Went back and fitted a new sensor a few days later and it was perfect

Huh, I just remember reading in some buyers guides that a lot don't work after windscreen replacement. I know Ricochet J mentioned his was useless on his 9-5 but don't know if it was replaced. Like I said, mines fine but one of my old cars which definitely had non OE glass was iffy at best. Maybe it's down to the quality of glass used?

Possibly, I've never fitted one with OE glass, but its always one of the manufacturers the OE is glass is made by
