What have you done to your car today?

I love how your audio obsession continues in your car. I bet not many people have a rack in their boot for audio components!

Must be a pain getting the spare wheel out..?

I realised after posting and edited haha. :)

Similar size and shape, with CD changer in the side.

I'll look for the thread. :)

The haynes manual ought to give away what it is. ;)

This latest revision of the system makes access to the spare wheel very easy. The last fold in the carpet is right at the front of the rack. All of the speaker connections are quick release neutrik speakon plugs so the sub can be removed in seconds.

All of the work I've been doing on it for the last 3 months was caused by a a solder joint fracturing on a speaker and my 6 channel amp failing. Being period components means they are more prone to problems. I've preemptively done restoration work on all these components so the chances of problems are reduced. (The project thread that ian refers to, you can see audio system revision 1)

Ahh yes, if it was a Skoda you wouldn't need to carry a Haynes manual with you! :D ;)

Thats awesome though... :)

:eek::eek:

Wow buddy - your Saab thread is epic in terms of care. workmanship and documentation. Awesome work.

Agreed, just looked through it. I had no idea of your love for your car! :D

It looks superb. Though you need to get that bonnet re-sprayed... ;)

Thank you both. To be fair to it, any car that can put up with the abuse this one has for the last 17 years and only break down once in that time (fuel pump failure in 2014) is worth holding on to IMO. Whilst I agree the bonnet really could do with a respray, the rust that's rather quickly growing on the offside rear arch is definitely more critical.

Also the body coloured bumper tops and de-chrome looks superb, I think you should do that too... And new plain numberplates... I'm almost excited at the thought... I love new numberplates... :p

Yep huge amount of respect for the amount of effort and care that's gone into it. As another Saab person and a techy/audio geek, it's definitely up my alley :)

Changed the pollen filter in the Mondeo I picked up a few weeks ago, think it was a bit over due, not sure when it was last changed and the filter I took out weighed a lot more than the new one going in!

Also had a look under the bonnet of the MX5, noticed the belt tensioner wasn't as tight as it should have been, went to adjust it but then noticed the bolt to adjust the tensioners was missing. Haven't a clue when that happened.

You can get two types of filter, with our without carbon, the carbon ones are usually slightly more expensive and will filter odours better..

The one on the right of your image is a carbon type, hence the colour.

I know the other one was carbon, but that doesn't explain the colour, it is a slightly off grey colour, where as this is pretty black. Along with this, when I picked it up, the following was left behind

Demon - I replaced my dirty paper cabin filter with a carbon filter to my Mondeo so I know the visual difference and that one in the pic is black from dirt not just the carbon.

This is a genuine Carbon Filter - see the difference to the dirty one above -

Put the correct wheel back on the Celica.

Also noticed the throwout bearing on the Skoda has started rattling at idle. It can be ignored, a slight rattle after 166,000 miles on one clutch is fine by me. Not even a hint of slippage and the bite point is as smooth as ever.

Couple more nibbles on the Celica ad... Chasing one now :)

4x new Goodyear Eagle F1AS3's fitted to my new to me alloys. Will fit them tomorrow when I have the necessary tools.

I also attempted to rattle can the inside of one of my alloys but there is something on it that even 80 grit sandpaper won't remove. I can remove it with my nail, but nothing else. Not bad but not amazing either. Fronts on all 4 are pretty much immaculate, just me being OCD so I hated the insides.

Anyway, they are going to get powder coated soon anyway so nothing lost.

Residue from stick-on weights..? If it is that try soaking it in brake cleaner or something, or try saturating the sandpaper in brake cleaner and have at it again.

No, not residue, it's almost like brake dust baked onto the surface of the wheel. I have tried:

  • Clay
  • Acidic wheel cleaner
  • Compound/Polish
  • Tardis
  • Neat Smart Wheels
  • Bar Keepers Friend
  • Red7/IronX

Nothing removes it...
