*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

It's an in game competition to create a new major power based on a player group, there's more information on the community site and fourms, I've not been paying it any attention as I'm making my way to Sagittarius A and then aim to join up with Jaques.

I'm currently still on my way back from Sag A. Left months ago. Sadly I did not farm Neutrons and BH's (mainly cos I can't seem to find any!) about 16,000 LY to go :| navigating in the core is horrific.

Tell me about it, I am within a couple of hundred lights now and having to plot each jump one at a time, it's been a bizarre trip though, I've not jumped into more than a dozen systems where I couldn't scoop the main star so fuel has never been an issue and I have yet to see a black hole, I did see a single neutron star though lol.

IIRC they patched the frequency of good stars to a higher rate. People were making 10's of billions travelling to the core and gathering data. I think all the cool stuff is just replaced with boring stars, most interesting stuff I've found is about 30 Earth-Likes in about 1800 jumps :/

You need to find the magic number for plotting through the core.

Its your jump range multiplied by X into 1000ly mine was 30 to reach just under 1000ly, so mine was something like 983, 953, 923, 893 etc. Its a pain in the butt but you can plot through the core at distance.

So its divide your jump range into 1000ly and find a star that is close to the jumps required, then it should plot.
If it fails just come out of galaxy map or change route from fastest to economical and that should stop the lock up you get when route plotting has failed.

I have spent about 4 hours today bounty hunting in Graill Redd for the community goal. quite good fun. Some elite FAS and Clippers and lots of small bounties not nearly a match for my rank. (I thought that was a thing now) anyway, normally I would expect to be bottom of the table, however I am top 50 already... Are there that few people now choosing to do bounty hunting or is it the case peeps go out there and get on the ladder to ensure they get some reward.

Anyway, the Nurf to AI is very visible... Not popped a shield cell bank entire time I was in combat... From one extreme to another...

Another successful day with the engineers. I now have everyone unlocked with the exception of Juri. No idea how to deal with claiming the Combat Bonds for him. It implies that I just claim them any old place, but despite making 400k in a CZ and a host of kills, no change to the rating of 0/50. Hmmm.

On the other engineers, just one left to get to L5, i.e. Palin, and he's at L4.
I also started applying upgrades to my primary ships. The Clipper has a host of upgrades on it, mostly L4. Does appear to make it more survivable. Should be able to pick off Palin tomorrow as I know I just need high density composites and heat disperson plates, both of which I'm hoping to get from my next CZ trip.
The Python will get a full set of upgrades once I've gathered the required mats. Got most, but really rare things like exquisite focus cells are still eluding me.

Surely you take the bonds to him and hand them over?

Properly going for it then :)

Dano> Not going, nearly done.
The real effort has been unlocking and ranking them. It's required a 5k LY run, mining, surface prospecting, combat at Nav points and CZs, lots of runs with data and similar, even "piracy" in anarchy systems. In short, about every discipline or activity in the game, which is why I don't really have a problem with them. It's pushed me to go out, get away from my normal comfort zone and do different things again.

Once done, I now have a shopping list of fairly esoteric materials to allow the final L5 upgrades to my ships. No rush on those. The really weird ones I'll try to find from missions.

Whilst some was a real pain and some had things like terrible descriptions, overall, and in retrospect, it was a good thing. For one thing, all of my primary ships have much better jump range now.

As for unlocking with combat bonds, not quite. These are pre-requisites to even receiving the invite. So they have to be done BEFORE going. Still don't quite get what I'm missing. Maybe I need the full 50 kills before unlocking. Right now, my count is showing zero. Just about to go back into a CZ.

Sorted. That's my 9th L5 engineer. The remaining ones are ones that I really don't care about. So no more engineers to rank up. Phew, that's a feeling of achievement.

Just added L5 clean drives to my Asp, which is one of my heaviest used ships.
So now it's the gradual upgrade of the rest. Got my hit list of mats pinned next to my monitor. Think I'll nail most of those purely from mission benefits.

Nice!

What speed are you getting out of your Asp now? I am considering clean drives as my next upgrade when I come back to the bubble.

As per normal, didn't get a great roll on the wheel. My speed is 313 and 430 with boost . I believe the max you can get is +14% with clean drives and I got +11.
It's also worth bearing in mind that they use slightly more power which could affect your choice of Power Plants on an explorer build.

Just planning the L5 upgrades for my Python. Not likely to be happening quickly as they include mats like exquisite focus crystals (never seen any), more Antimony, cracked ind firmware etc. All of which are tough to find. Hence why I think I'll go back to transport duties for a while after nailing what I can already do.

Update: Took my Python off to apply some upgrades. 2nd one being an L5 FSD upgrade. This is my sixth L5 FSD upgrade and this one is ....10 % Just, just....ahhhhhh. Not ONE of my L5 FSD has exceeded 26%. Where's the other 20% going... Time for more polonium and strange wake gathering.

I'm about 4.5LY from home now. Almost back from the bubble. Left before the engineers! Upon my return what should I do to get back into things and get some mods on my ship?

Personally? I'd wait. I think there's been a fair amount of complaints at The Engineer mechanics (to say the least) so expect FD to most likely keep on the path of least resistance and just dish out more materials, more often, more easily to appease people.

So if you wait a month, you'll most likely find it less grind'tastic.

They've already stated that is exactly what they are doing so no need for it to be conjecture.

Didn't I already post this?

Greetings Commanders,

You may well have seen our recent posts after The Engineers (2.1) which highlight some of the feedback that we’ve taken on board and changes we’ve made based on that feedback. You’ll have noticed that we’ve made a number of server and point updates including a host of immediate bug fixes and balances to NPC behaviour as well as allowing you to select the experimental modification type from Engineers, reducing the rare allocations to make the unlocking of Engineers easier and local news article at Engineers bases to give more information on where to find specific materials.

However, that’s not all, as ever we are working hard to ensure that player feedback is at the heart of Elite Dangerous and we just wanted to share with you a few more changes that we are planning for our next major point update. We are aiming for the end of July/Early August (there may be a few minor point updates and stability fixes before then).

In order to continue to address the feedback raised regarding both the grind and RNG nature of The Engineers we’re going to making the following changes;

- We will be adjusting the way the surface scanner works to allow you to see what materials are available from any given planet. This should make locating materials far easier.
- In addition we are making a number of changes to the lowest level blueprints. This includes improving the positive effects of low level upgrade results as well as reducing the cost and simplifying the materials needed.
- We’re also increasing the number of units you get for each instance of a material you find. This means instead of getting one unit of a material, you will get multiple units of that material. This will allow you to increase the number of attempts at each Engineer.
- We’ll be increasing the number of materials spawned when surface mining. Again, to make the process easier and the materials easier to gather.
- The likelihood of finding rare materials in these instances will also be increased, meaning it will be easier to use higher level blueprints.
- And we will be reviewing the balance and locations of non-planet salvage and reviewing the possible USS locations for each material

Not to mention the changes that we’ve made in the recent point update. To be able to select your weapon upgrade and give you control over what module you leave with, reducing the requirements to unlock certain Engineers and increasing the visibility of where materials can be sourced, should help to make the Engineers more accessible and more rewarding for players venturing down to the planet surface in search of a new upgrade.

As always the development team will continue to read and review your feedback to allow us to make the best possible experience for the community.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.

My advice would be to play and do what you want, in the time it takes to wait for the changes you could easily have some nice modifications going by doing very little other than making sure you have a collector limpet controller on board and a decent supply of limpets.

I assume you have invites to at least a few engineers in your inbox already?

They've already stated that is exactly what they are doing so no need for it to be conjecture.
The question (conjecture) is, how much they'll adjust things, in what ways... It could well be in a couple of months, it's half the "effort", and there's other changes that make it even less of an "effort"...

Unless you've quoted what those changes will actually be?

Inference being, if you're in no rush to Engineer, don't rush... :)

Did you even read the quote?
Yes, it said, they would be changing things... No suggestion of how much, where exactly and to what degree etc. And indeed if people then still kick up a fuss, if they might not still appease folks even more...

So, they're doing something to simply throw more materials at you, but until we get it, we don't know what the scale of it is.

Yes? I don't recall seeing anything much more specific?

You must be reading a completely different post to me, there was plenty of information as to how much and what degree, exact figures, of course they're not going to quote those as yet. They also gave a target date which you seem to have missed.

Well of course, FD have proven time and time again that they are open to making changes due to feedback.

So, they're doing something to simply throw more materials at you, but until we get it, we don't know what the scale of it is.

That's not all they are doing though is it? And at the very least it will be double what you currently have, take that as a base figure and go from there.

Yes? I don't recall seeing anything much more specific?

No, there was plenty more specific, you just typically chose to ignore it so you could further disparage FD and Elite, remind me again why you continue to post in here? You don't appear to like the game and rarely have a good thing to say about it.
