What film did you watch last night?

If I'd paid to see Batman V Superman, I would have felt totally robbed.

Like me then ^.^ lol - in all fairness I did like Bens portrayal of the Bat,which did surprise me, but the film did have lots of issues - awaiting the extended edition to give it a 2nd viewing

Edward Scissorhands - a very young Johnny Depp goes a bit weird with the help of Tim Burton. the first of many films together. 3/5

Tower Heist - Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy try to recreate some late eighties fun and partially succeed in the heist movie that takes a long time to get started. 3/5 The scary bit was seeing an old Matthew Broderick!

Weird Science. Utter bilge. Given that John Hughes started with Sixteen Candles and then this it's a wonder anyone was still prepared to let him near a camera when he wanted to make decent films like Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club... You can still see the anarchic fantastical elements in those films, but at least there is some semblance of a coherent plot, which is more than can be said for this mess.

Kelly Lebrock was pretty schwing, though.

:D I loved this film when I was a kid.
Watched it recently and it has not aged well at all, but I still enjoyed it for nostalgia and the bar/car scene, Bill Paxton + all of the lovely Lebrock.

I don't think it was ever intended to be anything more than a silly teen adventure, so perhaps a critical breakdown isn't necessary.

Anyway, gimme da keeeys :p

The Ninth Gate - bad.

Even more shocking are some of the positive reviews of the film... reading some of them on IMDB... people desperately trying to make out that it was so amazingly, incredibly clever...

Being vague or open to interpretation does not make something clever. There wasn't even that much scope for analysis. If it was a comedy it wasn't funny enough, if it was supposed to be a thriller it wasn't tense enough, if it was supposed to be intellectual it wasn't clever enough. It just flat out wasn't entertaining enough to justify its length.

Avoid, or watch if only to enjoy scoffing at disbelief at some of the IMDB Comments.

2/5

Well, it's available in the states for digital download at least :p :D

Anyway, don't let me get in the way of your halo polishing routine :) As you were...

Ha ha, i'm legal with all I watch but I have no illusions others aren't and I have no issue with it. I just wish folks would be honest and say they don't want to pay for stuff instead of repeating the same old nonsense arguments about availability/exclusivity/etc :)

Central Intelligence - 3/10

Why did I agree to go see this, I know it's not my type of film or style of comedy I enjoy.

Utter bilge (to me :p)

Enemy at the Gates

Seen it before, but still a great second world war sniper flick. Jude Law and Rachael Weiss play the most British Russians ever :D but still very tense in parts.

It made me want to play the Sniper Elite games again!

You're not allowed to tell the truth on here ;)

Without wishing to stray off-topic too much I think you'll find it's convenience more than the cost. A lot of people want to choose how they watch and when they watch and would pay for the privilege. The current distribution model is archaic and serves to line the pockets of a desperately out of date industry refusing to meet the needs of the consumers. Piracy is their problem, not ours.

I'm not sure I agree with you entirely. Services like NowTV, Netflix, etc are excellent in terms of delivering films, particularly when you compare it to life 10 years ago, going to the video rental store. Where I get a bit frustrated with things is the issue of exclusivity, because it would be ludicrous to subscribe to every service just to be sure you didn't miss out on exclusives on some service of other.

This also sort of comes back around to my argument that some people simply don't want to pay.

I've yet to find something I want to watch which isn't available legally. Sometimes I have to pay an on demand price (iTunes, UV code via eBay, Amazon Rental), sometimes it's on my existing Netflix, prime, Now TV subscriptions...occasionally I have to actually buy a physical DVD/Bluray.

Of course when it falls to physical product, the convenience aspect goes out of the window. However does someone have the right to get something for free by downloading/streaming simply because it's not conveniently available for them?

I re-watched Margin Call a few nights back.

Really like the film and on a re-watch now think it is one of the best films ever made. Certainly the best finance genre film.

The bluray is stunning as well.
