had my bike 3 months and had my first brown pants moment. behind really slow traffic and getting Impatient, once there was a gap I went for it and had quite a big tank slapper as I crossed the white lines/catseyes. lucky to stay on, could feel it trying to throw me off... lesson learnt I think.

Learnt how to clutchless shift on my way down to Brighton last night for some reason my clutch cable was going slack at random so I've got my clutchless shifting nailed!

check it's not fraying, the last time mine suddenly went slack it broke not many miles later. You'll then get to learn how to do clutchless down shifts! If you need a new cable, Wemoto are just down the road from brighton.

This has just come up for sale not far away from me, if it was a month or so from now I'd probably go and have a look at it. It does has a stone chip in one of the headlights though (£180 for a new one) and has a power commander, which I'm never too keen on - I'd prefer buying an unmodded, unmolested bike.

Part of me also wants to wait for one of the black model Tuono's to come along, they're a little more special/rarer.

I don't think it's fraying it's only been fitted for 8 weeks or so and it seems to be flip between ok and not I think it's possibly the cable housing popping in and out of the lever meaning there's less resistance for the cable when I come to pull it in.

It done it around a month ago on the way home from work when I stopped for petrol but was fine by the time I stripped it all down at home. I've got a proper OEM cable in the shed at home so I'll fit that when I get back tomorrow afternoon. It couldn't be the springs or plates in the clutch could it as it seemed a bit strange that it felt better once the engine was off in the services almost like it might be down to heat/movement.

I did hit the throttle stop for the first time yesterday in 6th though.

What bike is it? I'm on the throttle stop in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th most of the time :p more power needed I think!

Another tuono up for sale near me, if i wasn't after a factory model I'd be right on this, it's not in mint condition but it's cheap as hell, that's a lot of bike for £3.5k! 2007 Tuono

The AP rearsets are nearly £300 to buy, an Ohlins rear shock is another couple of hundred.

Thoughts on SV replacement? It must do 5 miles to work the rest is fun rides. Bikes I like that don't have silly insurance :

Aprillia SL1000
Suzuki TL1000S or R
Early GSXR600 (by early I mean early 2000s)
Sensible option: Yamaha FZ6

Must handle a 5 mile commute. So... pretty much any bike ever made then :p

What's your budget? As it's an SV650 replacement, I would think you're looking for 100-140bhp? Another V-twin?

Well yeah I mean I don't want to be faffing with a choke or 10 minute start up procedure :p

I want to spend less than 3k, 2.5k really unless I find a stunner. What I want is something faster than the SV with sporty suspension from the start, no upgrading or whatever. If I could I would pick a random japanese sports bike but anything with a full fairing gives me comical insurance quotes (except the GSXR-600), yet fast half-faired are much more reasonable.

A lot of the fast commuter bikes according to the internet have great engines but naff suspension, the thing I hated about the SV was diving to the floor under braking.

The TL1000 and SL1000 both have decent suspension (if the TL1000 has had it's rear shock already changed) with a half fairing which seems difficult to find elsewhere! I might be missing something similar though.

You seen the chicken strips on the front tyre???

Hmm, ok - so sporty naked with 100+ BHP for under 3k.

Shame your budget isn't a tad higher, this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-APRILIA-TUONO-1000-RED-BLACK-FSH-MOT-OCT-/182200230356?hash=item2a6bfae1d4:g:254AAOSwygJXgOsQ is an absolute bargain, probably get it for £3300. Although it's about as far into the corner of the country as you can get, it's in Broadstairs, kent, right at the eastern tip.

Aprilia Shiver - £2750 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aprilia-Shiver-750-/252455470335?hash=item3ac784c4ff:g:800AAOSw0kNXgQEJ

As already mentioned, a gen1 tuono http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APRILIA-TUONO-1000-FIGHTER-2004-/122040563399?hash=item1c6a2f36c7:g:2FAAAOSwanRXgMdM

You'll get a CBR600F for that money, they're classed as a sport tourer so insurance is the same as naked bikes (I was considering one as my first big bike).

Spring ST, again a sport tourer so although faired, OK on insurance http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-SPRINT-ST1050-ABS-2005-/162119582469?hash=item25bf148305:g:zTMAAOSwEjFXclyp

Hornet 900 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-HONDA-CB900F-2-HORNET-SILVER-ONLY-4700-MILES-FROM-NEW-FSH-NEAR-MINT-/182187189323?hash=item2a6b33e44b:g:6NAAAOSwvg9Xcjjn

Completely lost use of my clutch on the A23 this morning luckily only about 5 miles from some services so after some clunking of gears I parked up whipped the front sprocket cover off and discovered the lock nut had worked it's way off the clutch grub screw which would explain it!

Luckily the sticky muck that covers the inside of the cover kept hold of the nut for me so ten minutes later I was off again into some torrential rain.

What brand exhaust is this?
