What film did you watch last night?

Hanna 6/10

Second time watching this. First time, I loved it, would have given it an 8/10 no problem. But the wow factor isn't there on the second time around and film isn't good enough to survive without those wow/shock moments.

If you haven't seen Hanna, go watch it, it's worth the effort, just don't ever watch it again :)

The Martian (Only 99p rental on offer on rainforest prime)

6/10

Nothing like I thought it was going to be. Felt quite corny and 'light'. Don't know why but was expecting it to be moodier, and much better.

Terminator Genisys 5/10

I didn't dislike it. Much better than Salvation

Although I don't dislike Rise of the Machines either. I think the mobile crane scene is great.

Only thing I didn't understand was come Skynet waking up changed from 1997 - Rise of the Machines to 2017 and Genisys.

Because people from the future keep messing with time travel and changing the time line. Not enough to stop judgement day, but enough to delay it. It's never properly explained, but "Pops" is from one of these future timelines that is now not going to happen.

The Secret Life of Pets (2016) - 7/10

An amusing and entertaining diversion with great animation and snappy pacing. Doesn’t quite have the same magic as some of the other animated films, but it’s still fun to watch and has a likeable and varied cast of characters.

Billy Madison - Adam Sandler almost before he was Adam Sandler, you can see the charm and understand why he was the thing for a while but overall it felt like it could have been better. 3/5

School of Rock - 9/10

The wife had never seen this film, so as an ongoing part of her music education we fired up the DVD.
I haven't watched in for a few years, but it's as good as ever, even better now as I have a half decent amp & speakers to listen to it now !

Next on the list.... The Pick Of Destiny. :D

Sicario - 5/10 - Some fantastic cinematography and set pieces with an "OK" story which has been done a few times before. Some good acting from the two male leads but, for me, Emily Blunt just doesn't come across as well as her character seems far too weak to in the position so holds within the FBI HRT. Plus as an ex-military person myself, whoever did her weapons handling course needed to spend more time with her as her skills during the opening scene were pretty poor and instantly made her "unbelievable" to me.

Batman Vs Superman - Ultimate Edition - 7/10 - I didn't see this in the cinema so after seeing this longer "uncut" version I miss some of the complaints made as I thought it was a pretty good film, if a little dark for a Superman film. However the film likes to revert back to the "lets destroy a city again" story far too much, Wonder Woman was wasted but I think both her and Affleck will work well in their own movies. Superman himself however still annoys me with the immense lack of common sense the writers give his character. Visually very dark which hides some poor CGI towards the end but still quite a spectacle, if a little overblown.

Batman v Superman 6/10
Hated the first part of the movie leading up the confrontation. I really couldn't buy into Ben Affleck's version of Bruce whatsoever. I thought his story was the deepest but just terribly executed in the script. Superman was good for me, even if the naivety is outdated for 2016. WW was a waste of screenspace - zero development.
-spoilers- The whole thing turned around for me at the final battle, since the only book I've ever read was the Death and Life of Superman I was pleasantly surprised it veered in that direction. The depiction of Doomsday was disappointing at first, but again I was impressed as the fight went on. I suppose they introduced an element of 'wonder' in WW in the way she seemed to be able to fight DD indefinitely. That was a nice contrast and the only aspect of her role that made an impact.
CGI didn't bother me.
