What to do? Hit and run in car park...

Similar thing happened to me. Had my new Leon about 2 and a half weeks before someone decided to remove some paint from it with their own car. Had two quotes so far to get it repaired, £316 and £565. Haven't decided yet whether to go through insurance or just pay it myself.

People are monsters.

Check how much your insurance will go up by.

Remember to reduce your NCD (if not protected) and add a fault claim.

Then consider your excess and decide if it is worth claiming on insurance.

For a brand new car surely it's worth paying £316 if the scrape is noticeable.

I'd not tell my insurance as no one is injured and it is all cosmetic.
Use a claims handler such as SytnerDrive or AudiAssurance.
Most brands of car have such schemes these days to get the work for their bodyshops.
I have been around long enough to know that with car insurance claims you almost always lose and have to do all the running around waiting for crap class A courtesy cars and chasing up the repair which will turn out to be rubbish etc...

It doesn't work like that - insurers share claims information for fraud reasons, if a claim is made - they'll know even if you don't tell them.

You have to tell them, sadly.

You would think so, but has never worked like that for me in the 5 times I have used them - but it has when claiming from my insurance or directly from the third party's. The third party's always asks who you are insured with.

Maybe the Accident Management Co. doesn't pass on the details of their client?

Go through the insurance. It's going to happen anyway when you tell the girl that it is going to cost £1000 rather than the £100 she was expecting. You might as well just save some time and agro and do it straight away.

At least then you are doing the right thing, the right way and will have your car repaired to a high standard with your corrosion warranty intact. On a side note, you should also do it due to their dishonesty and their attitude to other peoples belongings. Your insurance will go up by maybe 10% or so, so not much and a small price to pay to get it done right.

Esure increased my insurance from £275 to £400 for a non fault claim .. So that's an increase of almost 50%. I found it shocking to be honest and best I could get was £350 that year!

Go through insurance. It's what you pay it for.

The fact they drove off after knowingly causing damage abd denying it causes me more concern.

Theaccident management company doesn't but the company they claim from does. If you don't disclose to your own insurer, you run a risk at a later claim from your own company.

Yeah I think I'm just going to take the hit and go through insurance so at least I can get Jag to do it. I'll take some satisfaction in knowing she's lost her no claims at least

I'm going to ask for her details today, but if for some reason she decides to do a runner and not give them to me, am I/insurance able to get them as I've got her reg and mobile number?

:(

It really makes me just want to sell up and drive a banger around. There's me wanting to buy an XJ, an even bigger target for people to hit. Why do we bother? :(

This is why I drive around in a knackered Focus. It looks crap but drives ok. I can't be doing with the hassle. The other car only comes out if I'm not going anywhere with kids, parents or shops.

DO NOT talk to the insurance company about minor scuffs like that. Get it done "off the books", otherwise they will simply use it as an excuse to hike your premium and you'll end up paying more in the long run. If the people that did the damage won't play then go to the police.

But yea, this kind of crap is why I'm going for something that's already fully depreciated for my next every-day car. We can't have nice things in modern society.

As much as I hate the compensation culture of modern society, is it possible to claim from the person at fault for the increase in your insurance premium?

She won't lose any of her no claims bonus if she doesn't claim for the damage to her own car. It'll just push up her premiums.

If he goes through insurance it will be her insurance who pay for it so she will lose no claims won't she?

Assuming she's insured?
