Overwatch

Got this a few days ago, been playing it a fair bit and I'm now rank 22. Really enjoying it, the different classes make for a fun game that's surprisingly varied.

Not interested in competitive at all to be honest.

No proper 21/9 support means a no buy from me. Which is a shame as I was looking forward to playing something other than The Division for a few nights a week.

I thought the same and put off buying Overwatch for a while. One night I caved in and, honestly, the lack of 21:9 bothered me until the moment the first game started. Hasn't been an issue since.

How is the initial ranking decided? So far I've played 4 of the ten games and won all of them, do medals earned etc. count towards it?

It's done on individual performance, even if you win all your games it doesn't mean you'll be a high rank if you were carried by your team mates.

This. Was playing with a friend for the majority of games he came out at 55 I came at 60. Distinguished that I was playing better in my role.

Competitive is a lot more fun as people don't leave as easily and you have generally better balanced team setups in each game.

Unfortunately you still do get whiny plebs wishing you get cancer. But I don't think any online game I play anymore doesn't have them.

What were you placed and what are you now?

My friend placed 62 which is crazy high, so he lost a lot initially which put him closer to where he belonged. He stabilized around 52 and is now climbing up slowly. Maybe similar thing happened to you? It's possible you had a crazy good quick play MMR which inflated your ranked MMR after placements.

I was 56, went up to 57 now down to 51. Can't say I believe I was placed too highly, if we were playing 5.5v6 cos I was dragging the team down then it wouldn't be stomps all the time cos you'd have to assume everyone else was evenly matched.

I agree about the more balanced setups, but not sure about the other part. I seem to be getting more and more games where somebody leaves (just played 4 in a row and only completed 1 with no leavers), maybe I'm just being unlucky.

Do you unlock anything good as you level up. I'm level 17 ATM and I'm starting to get a little bored of it.

I think it needs a few more game types. Are there any planned updates?

I've been really enjoying this game but the matchmaking seems to have gone up the spout since the competitive update went out. Now I (level 28) get matched against mostly level 60+ on QuickPlay with a team of randoms who usually don't stand a chance. We get steamrolled :(

Anyway, keen to play with fellow OCUKers for some actual teamwork - played hundreds of hours of L4D2 back in the day and that was great. So let's become internet friends - reflux#2991

I'm sticking to quick play for now, I did do a couple competitive this weekend but just find quick play more enjoyable, fair dinkums to those enjoying it but competitive is just not my bag right now.

Probably the wrong type of game for you.
Think more CS:GO where you getting better is where the fun is.

I'm the opposite. I played a couple of quick play games after only playing comp for the last month and it's horrible. First game I faced 5 bastions and a mercy, next game 4 winstons. And when it wasn't a cheese comp, the games just felt low quality and sloppy. At least in comp people actually try to win.

Yeah there is that problem I must agree, along with people just not playing the objective at all and treating it like deathmatch :p

Looks like the new hero and changes from the PTR are probably coming out tomorrow (judging by the 1.8Gb download) - super excited as haven't really been playing on non-PTR lately; the games seem fresher and more varied with the changes
